If you have access to a windows machine for your work you can do so at your own risk. I don't know about Chrome on a Mac but java for safari and Firefox are disabled for now.

Tell your company to start using good programming languages and uninstall the garbage software that Java has become. I've had it disabled in my browsers for years and I'm a websurfing demon, hundreds of pages a day, and in all that time I've yet to encounter a single site that requires the Java plugin. Tha Java Runtime for running apps written in Java is also crap. Every Java app I've ever seen has a horrible user experience / interface.
The best thing to do is dump Java all together and move forward. If your work is so far behind the times and insists on using it I would start looking for another job. Honest, it says a lot about the company.
