I was prompted to update and connected to itunes, was then prompted to restore my iphone, which I did. Now I have a black screen on my phone with the apple icon and my phone isn't listed in the itunes devices when I connect. Hve updated itunes and done all the resetting required etc. Still no joy - what has happened? (I am a complete thicko when it comes to technology!)

Exact same problem I am having.  I hope someone will review and respond on this.   I am really tired of looking at the little Apple on the screen.   iPad updated with no problem (in about 20 minutes).   iPhone is being a bit less cooperative.  I downloaded iOS 6 via wi-fi connection and then followed the iTunes restore prompts.

It is been about 8 hours of the little Apple screen remaining lit, then fading, then looking like it is powering off and then coming back on again to the Apple screen.   I have tried turning off the phone, leaving the phone off for a while and then turning it back on and nothing seems to be working.  iTunes will not recognize the device in its current state.

Please help!    I am not a material girl, but my iPhone is an essential part of my day.    Thank you!

I'm having the same problem too!!!  Phone restore via itunes won't even work.  Been on hold with Apple support for about 5 minutes now... will post if they have it figured out.

they had me hold the home & sleep buttons down at the same time as plugging the cord into the phone... then go through the itunes restore again, but even that didn't work.  i had to set up a repair appointment at an apple store - earliest i could get is in two days... THIS *****!!!!

before holding both buttons & plugging in, hold just the home button & plug it in... not as invasive to the software as holding both.  the error code i kept getting is 1603.

I GOT IT!!!! .... held home & sleep until it looked like the phone was off (no icon or anything on the screen), took the sim card out & went through the itunes restore again.... had to do it a couple times & it did completely wipe out my personal stuff from my phone but at least it's working & most of my info was backed up on icloud... i had to go through the restore twice for it to work, first time i got error code (-1).

    Hope this helps!!  Good luck!!

even the apple techs couldn't help... maybe try & figure another way to "shock" your phone into action... it took a bit of playing around for me to get itunes to recognize it

I believe error code -1 has to do with firewall and antivirus blocking communications with Apple servers.

You can try allowing the Apple processes to go thru your firewall or even taking it down for the update procedure.

I wouldn't recommend removing the SIM card unless you are specifically receiving a SIM Card error.

You can try changing or updating your firewall/Antivirus to allow the program to communicate with Apple and if that gives you no joy, try placing the device in DFU mode or just doing a hard reset like the other lady said she did.

Hard Reset: Press the sleep/awake button and the home button at the same time for 10 to 15 seconds until the apple logo appears (in her case she did it just long enough for the screen to go off).

DFU: Connect the phone to itunes and press and hold the sleep/awake button and the home button for a count of 10 and then release the sleep/awake button but continue pressing the home button until itunes identifies your phone is in recovery mode. Then proceed with restoration of the phone.

Sometimes after performing the DFU if you get an error try restarting itunes.

I had this problem, too but was able to fix it.  Here's what I did:  I unplugged all other devices besides the phone and restarted computer (not sure this was necessary, but it's what I did).  Then I held down the start button and the nagivate button at the same time.  That got the ball rolling.  Just follow the prompts from there.  Be patient.  It looks like it gets stuck again, but hold on, and it will go through the process.  It uninstalled the update and reinstalled the old software.  A second step was to download backed up data from the cloud. Takes about twenty minutes to complete process.

    Good luck!
