"The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported." What does this mean if I cant get into my phone after erasing everything. It is locked  and I do have a valid SIM card in it. And what do I do? It is a used phone given to me with no sim card insterted. I erased it and it says that it is not supported by the carrier. Please help! What do I need to do? THere is no credit on the sim card at the moment becuase i cant unlock the phone to call with.

The iPhone is most likely carrier locked to a carrier other than who you have service with.

Ask whomever you got the phone from what carrier it is locked to.

Then either get a SIM and service from that carrier or ask them if they will unlock it and under what terms.
