Memory problem?

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2010 and lately it's really sluggish. So what's wrong with this picture? What can I do to make it snappier?

    One or more applications/processes is/are using up all of your RAM.  Since you have Activity Monitor open, select "All Processes" near the top of the window and sort by "Real Mem" to see who is/are the culprit(s).  You either have to tame those errant applications, not run so many applications at once, or get more RAM.
