Also, I can't change the presentation options : no grid show, or anything else as the plain list (which is totally fine, I loved the plain list before, as long as I could get my album covers on the side too), and I can't get the "navigator by column" (no idea how it's called in English, my iTunes is in French, but it's the thing that's on top, above your list, and from which you can choose an artist, or an album. To sum it up, the list of the artists and albums) to show.
Are you talking about iTunes 11 here? If so have you tried view in the top menu where you have the options "show column browser", "show status bar", and "show side bar"?
The artwork viewer in the bottom left hand corner has been removed in iTunes 11 which I really miss but you can view artwork when a song is playing, it shows as a smallicon at the top; if you click on this a big window with the artwork appears.
You didn't say where you've installed the music from, presumably a back up? It it's a manual backup, there's a seperate artwork folder in iTunes which you need to copy over if the artwork is not embedded in the song file.

Yes, that's iTunes 11, and I've shown all the bars. It's working fine for whatever is on the computer, but I can't change the presentation when I'm browing the iPod.
I know the artwork has been removed from the bottom left corner, and I hate that too... But the artwork doesn't show in iTunes 10 on the macbook air, although the box is here, and the artwork shows for whatever music is on the computer.
Music was from a backup on an external hard drive (thank god I had that, since the iPod is gone with everything else), and the artwork is there on the computer and on the iPod, but I can't get the grid view or cover view on iTunes 11 for the iPod (it's working fine for the songs on the computer). The area is just greyed out.
On iTunes 10, the artwork doesn't show (shows however for the songs on the computer), I have a big empty box. And same thing, presentation options are greyed out for the iPod. I can get grid view for the songs on the computer, but not for whatever is on the iPod.
That's not the worse, I can live without the grid view, but I can't get the panel where I can choose the artist or the album. This is a real pain. I don't understand why it's not working on both my new computers. I'll have to try on the PC, maybe it's doing the same thing. Could it be the iPod ? That would be so weird...
(that's what I can't display when I'm browsing the iPod)MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I just plugged my iPod classic into iTunes to check and I get exactly the same view as you. I'm pretty sure these options are meant to be greyed out unless you're browsing music on the computer. As far as I know, column browser has never been available for the iPod, but then again I've never tried to use it.
P.S. I take it column browser works for music on the computer?

You used it for browsing the iPod or music on the computer? If the former, then I guess that's another feature that's been taken out in iTunes 11.

I've just tried it with my iPhone and same result.

No, the iPod. As I'm constantly changing computers (4 of them, 2 being PCs), I don't synchronise the music, and I access it from the iPod. The music is on my main computer, on the other three, I was browsing from the iPod.
Strange thing is, the macbook air has itunes 10, and it's greyed out too...

Actually, I'm the kind of person who doesn't update the programs often, so chances are, I still had iTunes 9 on all the computers... I'll have to check on the PC and I'll get back to you.
One more feature which disappeared... :/

All I can offer is the comfort of knowing that I get the same result, both with an iPod Classic and an iPhone.
You could of course search by clicking on the top of a coloumn and typing the first few letters of the artist, album, song name etc.

Did you check whether the PC still had iTunes 9?

Sorry for the late reply. Yep, PC still has iTunes 9, and I tested the iPod on it, column navigation is very much possible when browsing the iPod content...
Again, one more cool feature which has been deleted...

BTW, the strangest thing happened today : I was on my macbook air (iTunes 10, Montain Lion) and I plugged the iPod in. I could browse it like before on iTunes 9 ! I don't know what changed, except that I plugged it in the PC to check it with iTunes 9...
Anyway, column navigation is possible again. The album art doesn't show up when I click on a track, but when I double-click to play it, I can see it on the side.
