Since updating to ios 6.1 my iPhone 4s sound is not working and my batteryis draining far quicker than it used to is this a software problem or a problem with my phone?

what troubleshooting steps have you tried? have you rebooted the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears? also, after doing an update it's best to go thru your settings and see if anything is different from before the update.

Same thing with my iPhone but on ios 6.0 and still didnt work when updated to 6.1.

Sound works when headphones plugged in. And I know its not a problem with my speakers because when my phone rings, I can still hear the sound. This happened a few days ago, I rebooted it by holding sleep button and home button... nothing... backed up and reset it.. still nothing. Cleaned out the jack and docking port with earbuds... nothing. Just when I had lost the will to live I tried blowing really hard down the headphone jack and hey presto it worked... sound was back!! Now a few days later it has happened again and nothing is making it work...

Apple really need to sort this out! It is definitely a software problem as speakers still work when someone rings...

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I am having the sound issue with my iPhone 4S after updating it to iOS 6.1, too. I have no outgoing sound. I tried the obvious - turned phone off and on, did a hard reboot, and reset the phone. I still have no sound.

I saw where some people have talked about re-docking their phone, but I have never had this phone on a dock of any sort. I can get outgoing sound by plugging in an external speaker in the headphone jack.

    Any other suggestions?

I am having the same problem. The iPhone will not respond, only showing the silver logo.

    Having the same problem.

Updated my 4S to 6.1 yesterday.  Now sounds and controls are wonky.

Volume buttons on the side no longer show up on the screen when pressed.  And they do not turn the volume up and down.

Ringtones do not work when calls are coming.  They will test fine when selecting ringtones.

I can use the double swipe right to get to the main volume control.  But that is not very functional when using the phone for music.

Have restored.  Reinsalled all my apps.  Still wonky!  No changes at all!

I use this thing all day long as an ipod.  Its about worthless to me right now!!!  Please fix it!

I updated my iPhone 4S when the iOS 6.1 first came out... The other day my alarms on my phone went off but had no sound... Now I have no sound at all on my speakers. I can only talk on the phone, and listen to my music on a dock or with head phones. I can't hear any ring tones or notifications... Has anyone else had a problem like this?
