Hi. I recently downloaded LP9 from the app store. When I try to load the "cavern kit" I get an error message which says: Audio file "DNA W Ht Open m Fr.aif" not found! Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you checked to make sure the file actually exists on your system?

    You should find it inside of;

    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Cavern Kit

(Replace Macintosh HD with the name of your System drive if you didn't use the default....)

Note: This file is not located in your User Library but in the System Library found in the Root of your System HD

If it is not there then...

Did you download all additional content via the Logic Pro menu bar...  Logic Pro/Download Additional Content and made sure it all downloaded/installed correctly?

Did you try and remove GarageBand at any time? (That particular file is actually one that is instaled with Garageband.. )

If none of the above works and you do have the file installed and can find it...

Then time to rebuild your Spotlight Index...

I checked for the file at

    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Cavern Kit

as you suggested and it isn't there! All of the additional content for Logic Pro is installed, and I have not removed GarageBand or any of its components.

I'm still going to try that spotlight rebuild and see if that works.

    Thanks!

Are any of the other kits in the folder?

Spotlight probably won't work (Famous last words however) as that kit is supposed to be in that location... so you might want to reinstall GB... if Spotloght doesn't locate it..

First though, before you do Spotlight...It might also be worth trying this little trick too...

Go to this website and download FindAnyFile (Grab the website version and not the App Store one)

    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

Then install it and set it to find the word Cavern on your System drive (Macintosh HD) and see if it shows up. If it does, try manually moving it from it's current location to the correct one.. and also, if you could, make a note of where it found it and post that info up here. It might help work out what's gone wrong....

Yeah, all the other kits are there. I've done almost all you've suggested and the file is nowhere to be found; my last option is to reinstall GarageBand and go from there. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help!!!

Well, I tried everything you suggested, even deleting and reinstalling GarageBand. Now the situation is actually much worse. Not only is the Cavern Kit now completely gone, so are many of the other sound samples.

So now I'm re-downloading the GarageBand content via Logic Pro...hopefully that will at least restore what I had to begin with....

I've used Logic for a few years and my latest version is a download from the App Store with the additional content - I have had some issues with certain sound files being missed, but fortunately they haven't really been critical to what I want to achieve - just try and get as comprehensive download as you can first - if, say the Cavern Kit doesn't completely load, you can always load it into the EXS24 and find another snare/bass drum/cymbal/swanee whistle to repair the kit - you might even start getting a better kit together that way, you never know...

    Thanks...that is an excellent idea!

Incidentally, after re-downloading all of the additional content files, it seems as though all of the cavern kit audio samples are now present and accounted for...go figure!

Note to self: do a backup ASAP!

Yeah, it can't really be said enough for me.

    UPDATE:

Recently I found other audio files missing, so I called Apple care and the guy had me do a "repair disk permissions" using the disk utility. Once that was done, I redownloaded the additional content, and voila, everything is there as it should be.
