Try Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone begins to restart itself. If still problem, you will need to Restore with iTunes on your computer, there is nothing else that can be done at this point. In addition your iPhone may have a more serious problem. Try the Restore with iTunes, hopefully it will work.

Same problem, but once i try to reset it from itunes it says failed ...cannot connect to server... I have tried many solutions to get it out of restore mode or to be able to reset but nothing seemed to work... any suggestions?..

If you are updating via iTunes on the computer, the first step in the process is a backup of the device.
Regardless, if the device is in recovery mode, all data is already gone.
What you want or do not want to do is irrelevant.
If you want a functional device, you will restore it.

I Have the same problem, when i tried to update to 6.1 it's failed and said after a lot of tries on dfu mode that software update server could not be contacted or is unavailable. Anyone know's anythink else that i can try? btw i dont have phone cuase of that....
