My kids have the I pad and I have the I phone. If I get a text message to my phone my kids get the same message on their I pads. How can I turn this off?

This is because they are using the same appleid as you.

Go to settings, messages and either turn theirs off or have them log in with their own account.

    Heyyn

    On their iPad,

    1.  Settings> Messages> Imessage=off

    2.  Settings> Messages >Send and receive  remove iPhone number and email addresses

They of course can turn these switches back on.

    Cheers
