Why does Final Cut Express stop capturing video at approximately 5:04 to 5:16 minutes saying: "end of tape".

I start at the place where it stopped capturing, start capturing again and another 5+ minutes goes by and "bloop!" the "end of tape" message appears again. Capturing has stopped.

What's up with that????

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Do you have a Capture limit set in preferences?  Are there timecode breaks on the tape?  Are you capturing HDV footage?

What are you capturing from?   DV camcorder?  HDV camcorder?  something else?

What are you capturing to?  Your internal hard drive or an external hard drive?   If external, is it formatted as Mac OS Extended?  (If it's FAT format, that would explain the problem you are experiencing.  Drives used with FCE must be formatted as Mac OS Extended.)

Exactly what version of Final Cut are you using?  You asked about Final Cut Express but your profile says you are using Final Cut Pro X.  Ditto regarding the version of OS X - what version?

I bought, installed and used the FCE in 2005. I used it for 5 years before it started acting up. All of a sudden the "end of tape" message would appear and the capture stopped.

    > Capture limit set in System Settings to 59 minutes.

    >Regardless of Time Code breaks, could be 1 hour tape continuous video, it sops at approx. 5 minutes and a few seconds (never the same twice).

    > Digital Tape (1 Hour, Sony, TDK, FujiFilm, whatever) on Sony DV Camcorder. Have used same one for 12 years here at work.

    >Capturing straight to internal HDD.

         >Sometimes tot he original HDD sometimes to the added HDD (also internal).

Both are formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

         >Final Cut Express HD 3.0

(When filling out the Info on the site Final Cut Express was NOT one of the options, that's why it says Final                Cut Pro X, sorry.)

         > OS X 10.5.8

    Thanks for your responses.
