RC62 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I bought Logic from the app store and it installed fine.  Upon launch it downloads a 2GB basic content update.  After prompting for my user password it trys to install the content, appears to complete, then Logic quits.  Upon relaunch Logic once again downloads the 2 GB file, prompts for a password, then quits.  It never finishes the install or gets out of this cycle.

I've trashed Logic and the preference files and re-installed from the App Store.  Still no joy.

I'm running Moutain Lion 10.8.2.  Any assistance or suggestions how to fix this would be appreciated.

Call Apple, there have been many with the same problem, see what they offer for a solution.

Thx...  I have an email into support.  Their initial response was to send me a link to the forums.  I had read a lot of the other posts on this issue and tried the suggested fixes.  But no joy.  I replied back to support and am waiting for another response.  I'll try calling if they don't give me any good answers to my email.

The solution was to refund my purchase...  Not too sure there is a fix for this issue.  Maybe the long awaited Logic X will resolve the problem.

    Thanks for the update.

You called support and then end up sending you here??

And this is professional support for one of Apple's premier PRO Applications?

At least you got your money back.

Sorry, not quite... to be clear I emailed support and they pointed me to the Support Forum.  After clarifying in my response that I had already been on the forum and tried all the various "fixes" (such as delete and reinstall, repair perms, manually download the content file, etc...) they were good enough to offer a refund.  I don't think they really read the initial email.  But they did right by me... Even the email responses were very prompt.

I do wonder what the heck the issue is though.  I would like to run Logic but think now it's best to wait until (if and when) the new version is finally released.

What I meant was, professional support should not send you to a user Forum first! That IS NOT professional support. I do realize their behavior and promptness was professional. This is a Pro application, it's advertised as such, there have been enough users with the same problem that Apple should at the very least have some suggestions.

Like I said, I understand they did right by you but if this happened at a studio/business that was using Logic, sending the customer to a user "volunteer" forum does not cut it.

I'm experiencing this same issue. Just purchased and downloaded Logic 9.1.8 today on Lion 10.7.5. Opened the app, it downloads 2GB of basic content, prompts me for password, tries to 'install basic content' and fails. I tried uninstalling and reintstalling, no dice.

Looks like RC62 ended up having to get a refund and no Logic. This was in October. Surely there's an alternative solution now, right?

Logic Pro from the App store doesn't require a password so that's a problem right up front. Have you had any othe version of Logic or Logic Express on thst computer?

    Pancenter,

I think it is asking for his Mac's User Account password..... to install

Art of sound - exactly. The Logic Pro app has been successfully downloaded to my computer. From there, when I  open the app for the first time, it automatically begins downloading '2gb of basic content' (instruments and such). Once that download is complete,  automatically begins the installation process of said 'basic content', at which point it asks my permission to do so (authentication). It then begins to install 'basic content', this process runs for about a minute, and then crashes. No error codes, windows, or any explanation.

So far in my research, I have come up with a few threads that are related to this, but none with a solution. So far is this one of the oldest threads. But it seems like its still a problem.

I also tried updating to Mountain Lion, but nothing has changed.

Has anyone downloaded the Logic 9 from the app store with complete success? Or do I need to spend more money and buy the disc?

    >Pancenter,

    >I think it is asking for his Mac's User Account password..... to install

    Duh...duh...duh..  "password"   (not serial)

    Righto

Ok, then next best guess is an incomplete or corrupted download, it may have to do with your Internet/Network settings.  Some with similar errors have called Apple and been told to change something in their network settings which cleared up the problem. Also, it could be a modem setting.

I'm thinking that it's also possible the original download was corrupt and now resides in the system cache, even though you've downloaded it again it may still be trying to install from the corrupted version... a remote possibility.

Some are able to get the content without errors by going to a friends house using their Internet connection/provider.

Last, have you repaired permissions and checked the disk for errors by booting off an install DVD.

Typically, there are three reasons I have come across frequently as to why the Additional Content does not correctly download.

    1) The ISP limits the size of any single contiguous file and so the Additional download 'breaks' when it reaches this limit... causing the complete download not to properly complete.

    2) Permissions /account errors... usually caused by the User having used Migration Assistant or Time Machine to move data over to a new computer in the past....

    3) The computer goes to sleep during the downlaod process causing an abrupt termination of the download...

The third one is actually the most common and is easily fixed by going to your Energy settings and making sure that both screen and computer are set to NEVER sleep and also make sure you uncheck the "Put HDs to sleep" option... You can put these back to normal settings afterwards.

The second option is fairly common and there is no easy way around this other than try and repair permissions to resolve the issue and if not, to do a fresh install of OS X and then Logic... I have tried using BatchCHMod on occasion to fix this and sometimes it does but other times it causes more issues than it fixes... when used improperly. Here is a link to my 'Method' of installing OS X and Logic from scratch that seems to work in most instances... be warned.. It is a time consuming method though and there are no guarantees of course.

The first possibility is something I have come across several times but it's not that common... A Call to the ISP in question, asking them to remove this max file size limit, often resolves this (if they do indeed have such a limitation in effect for your account) but you may need to get through to the right tech support person in order for them to understand and be able to change this setting on your account.

Finally, I can tell you I have personally installed several Logic Pros with Additional content in both Lion and Mountain Lion, without any issues whatsoever.... so yes, it can and does work.

You wouldn't think the first "additional content" download would breach an IP's size limit, it's about 2GB isn't it? I guess some have fairly strict limits?

Additional tip: If using a laptop, do not close the lid and keep the laptop connected to mains power throughout the download....
