Does Pacifist only work with Mac? I downgraded on Windows 7 and get error message of missing registry values for importing and burning CDs, and in fact since I downgraded none of my other programs recognize my two optical drives. Had to get on phone with Dell to remove drive filters. This new iTunes is wasting a huge chunk of time for me. Trying to downgrade is a nightmare, and using the new version takes so much more time to create and manage playlists which I do as a DJ.

Why why why didn't they just leave well enough alone. I HATE YOU ITUNES!

    used to love iTurnes, but...

I've given 11 time--yeah, change is difficutlt, sure--but my initial impression remains: astoundingly bad UI design.

Too badly designed to even start making specific complaints.

Just what the **** happened? Where were the focus groups when you need them?

I bet if I wanted to waste more time googling this, I'd find that, say Neal Stephenson or such has written a sardonic and elegantly-detailed account of the post-Jobs disarray at Apple that lead to this intruguing mess and it's eventually wide cultural/commecial ramifications.

    Hi ferrarabrainpan

There is a version of Pacifist for windows too. I hope it will work for you. I have a mac and it worked perfectly.

Since I am not a PC user, I cannot say what you'll have to do. In the case of itunes, I believe that you will have to try to reinstall version 10.7 draging it to pacifist and click ALL windows asking if you want to replace the files.

    Good luck!!

Agree - this new version was not well testing and the more I use the program the more issues I am finding, not to mention once again requires more systems overhead to run.  Soon Apple just might as well make a iTUnes only iPAD because nothing else can run on the system since iTunes requires all of the systems resources just to display the iTunes store.    Might be time to abandon iTunes altogether and go with something more flexible.

Thanks. It seems I have got everything working now after uninstalling version 10.7 and reinstalling it. The error message about missing registry values for the optical drives due to installing another burner (CDBurnerXP) is gone, and it appears my drives are recognized in iTunes and other programs.

I am just so glad to have the much more user friendly 10.7 version back on both my laptop and desktop!

(and I am never going to blindly update iTunes again when prompted, I'm sticking with the tried and tested thing that works with me and for me instead of against me)...

iTunes 11 is the worst!  I am so sorry I downloaded it.  You can't shuffle songs without going to "shuffle" on the playlist.  Used to be you could just click on arrow and shuffle or to menu.  It is not user friendly.  Took me  a long time to find things that used to be easy.

Can I delete and d/l load an older version?

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:

    • Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
    • Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
    • Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
    • Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the previous search behaviour.

To roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installeras appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.

See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

To protect against the unexpected in future backup your iTunes library (and other personal data).

I found that my 2 iPod Shuffles (2nd generation) no longer synced when I dragged music from my iTunes 11 library to the device.  I could get individual tracks to copy (albeit slowly) if I went to each track and selected Add To->iPod Shuffle, but this was unacceptable.  I downgraded from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7 and am relieved and satisfied to use a familiar interface that works.  No problems now with my Shuffles.  Good riddance, too, to the awkward search features of iTunes 11.

    Oh Apple...

I have been using iTunes since about 2007, when I bought my first iPod. It has been great to me ever since, and I still have the same iPod in use, like one should expect from a quality product. I always updated to the newest version without hesitation and occasionally wondered what else they could and would improve with every minor or major update, as there wasn't anything really missing it seemed.

Well... I recently installed iTunes6 on one of my old laptops for testing purposes -which was a nice blast from the past- but it ultimately turned out to be a bit too dated for my taste. I did the same with v7 and was quite surprised how close it is to v10.7, at least on the outside (mind you, v7 was introduced in 2006!) The reason for this is a universal principle: call it saturation, call it perfection, but whenever a tipping point is about to be reached, things slow down and eventually stop (a.k.a. Apple software update for iTunes 2007-2012)

I believe v10.7 is that pinnacle, given the numerous yet minuscule updates that did not offer anything really new for several years (besides support for the latest iPhone or iPod - come on). Maybe it could be a bit quicker and slicker (like v6) or offer FLAC support (like it should, as it has been around for 10+ years), but to take and mangle it in order to come up with something that is so juvenile, so poorly conceived, so imperfect like iTunes11 is a travesty and a very bad sign where Apple thinks we would want to go.

The new version is the worst so-called "upgrade" of a major software application by a multi-billion Dollar company I have ever come across (this includes Microsoft products) in terms of user-friendliness. It's fundamentally regressive, insultingly restrictive and ultimately suffocates the joy of managing and listening to music. I even felt dumbed-down after having used it for six weeks.

    Dean,

I've been following this and other threads concerning how dissapointed we all are with iTunes 11, and I think your post really summarizes what the collective feeling is better than any I have read.  iTunes 10.7 was the pinnacle.  If only Apple had simply focused on optimizing the existing code without removing signature features we would all be praising Apple for once again having the best interests of the user at heart.  Heck if they had even gone so far as to do something users have been asking for like adding FLAC support, their feedback forums would be flooded with thank-yous for putting the interests of the user first (as they always have in the past) instead of whatever agenda they now have that's driving the devolution of iTunes. After two weeks with iTunes 11, experiencing the exact feelings and intellectual disconnect you describe so well, I switched back to 10.7 and that's where I'm staying until Apple comes to their senses.

Please copy your posting verbatim to Apple iTunes feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

An Apple telephone support representative (who also acknowledged that a LOT of people he speaks with on the phone are very upset with iTunes 11), said that they honestly do read each every message they get there, and the feedback really does go to the iTunes development team.  There really is a cumulative effect and a tipping point to be reached, so we all need to copy our posts there!

I hate it too. I read that they were sued by the programmer for coverflow and they had to remove it. Not sure how true that is but it must have been something major to remove the best part of the program.

no. it ***** and i just tried to call apple support about a problem with my ipod touch and was told they couldn't help me. I hate to say it but apple may be getting ready to lose a valuable customer. I own 5 apple products.
