The sparsebundle is actually owned by TM.. the permissions allow TM only to work.. but the backup method on network drive is entirely different to backup to external drive.
The guru supreme leader.. Pondini. all bow.. has a brilliant expose on every version of how to copy backups.
You will be amazed.
IMHO.. don't bother..
Pull the disk out of the Gen1 box and put it aside.. if you ever need something from it, the disk should be fine in years time.. Generally once you go past 6months if you haven't needed anything more you won't .. replace the disk with a 1TB or larger Green drive or just sell it without hard drive to use as a TC or airport extreme.
