Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

FYI, I was just on the phone with B&H photo placing an order and found out that they sell AppleCare for the rMBP at a huge discount for  $244.00 (USD).  I ordered and registered it, it's the real deal (Apple# MD012LL/A) for $105 less than Apple !  Here is a link:

The checkout process only seems to accept a USA shipping address.

"Due to export regulations and/or manufacturers restrictions, we are unable to accept orders with a shipping address in UNITED KINGDOM for the following item(s):"

I've had a 15.4" rMBP since the end of November and just noticed ghosting today. Disappointing...

    @ I am ed & malkan

Here is the 'list' of countries that B&H Photo says can order the AppleCare from them, this is from their US Website on the AppleCare order page, the link gives more details:

AppleCare can only be purchased by customers residing in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Terms and Conditions will vary based on country of residence. For more information, including international AppleCare contact information, please click here.

Sorry malkan Sweden isn't on the list, maybe if you had a credit card with a billing address in one of the listed countries it may work....

The UK should be fine for 'i am ed' to order from, I am guessing that you may need to call to place order since the website propbably thinks you're trying to physically ship something to the UK (your highlighted text above says "shipping to UK") but there is nothing that actually ships its just an activation code for registration at Apple.....

I spoke to one of their live chat agents: "B&H is not allowed to ship Apple items outside of the USA due to Apple restrictions."

Does it look like my screen has a yellow tint to it?  I can't tell, doesn't look like it but want to make sure.

Interesting:  I have been a somewhat silent part of this thread since it first started.   Because of it, I have decided to hold off getting a rMBP until the update next summer.  However, I have made it a habit of checking the rMBP's on display in whatever Apple Store I visit.  Most of the Apple stores have about six 15" units on display.   Two days ago, I stopped in Las Vegas and checked the Apple Store in

Town Square.   I actually had trouble locating the 15" rMBP's that they had on display.  There were only two of them, only about a third of what I had been finding in other stores.  I didn't run the string on Terminal to see what both of the displays were, but one of them had pronounced IR and the other one appeared clear.    Were there so few 15" rMBP's because people aren't buying them?   Or is Apple not pushing them because of a known IR problem?   There were plenty of the other MBP's, both 13" and 15", as well as MB Air units.

Gosh...This is such a thread with so many posts! I don't think I've seen any longer. Hope Apple takes care of such problems. After all, when you buy a top-of-the-line product you shouldn't face such disappointment.

There is no way we can see wether you actually have a tint etc to your display because what you took was just a screen shot. So realistically, that imagine would look different on any other display. Plus, a screen shot is like a regular picture, I doesn't make a difference on what display it is on. If you actually took a picture with a camera then posted it, then we could see what you are talking about.

Can't tell.  It looks like there's a yellow tint all around the screen based on the picture but when I look at the screen, it looks all white.

Squilly, again, taking a photo of your screen really isn't going to do it. A digital picture of a digital image isn't going to yield anything close to accurate colors. This is up to your eyeballs and the eyeballs of those physically in front of the display.

If your screen looks all white to you I'm sure it is fine. I have a very slight yellow tinge just on the lower right area of my screen and on a white or light background it is easy to see.
