Hello there,

i hope you can help me, i have a problem with keynote 09 (v5.3) on OSX 10.7.5

i have an excel-file with many different decimal-values, f.e. 14,8 in one row.

when i copy the whole row and paste it in the diagram-data-editor of keynote,

the keynote data-editor rounds my values! in my example 14,8 -> 15.

but when i copy every cell alone, the comma is correctly pasted!

i have tried many experiments with cell-formation, also in numbers. no change.

the problem is only, when i copy more then one cell from numbers/excel!

and only in the diagram-data-editor – in a keynote table, the formation ist correct!

please don't tell me, this is a keynote bug ;(

thank you for your help!

sincerly marco (germany)

the problem is using a comma

you must use a full stop for the decimal point

    hey and thank you.

when i type in excel my values as 14.8 instead of 14,8 and copy/paste it in keynote, the data-editor transforms it in a full number -> 148. which formatting needs the excel cell? i used a own-formatting via ##.# that seems wrong

when i use numbers, at first it convert my 14.8 (with full stop) into 14. october 2013! i formatted then the cell as text, and it seems right - the 14.8 is shown as 14.8, but when i copy/paste it into keynote data-editor a date appears! -> 14.08.2013 - wrong, but at least a punctuation in my data-editor, but wrong.

is it a system problem? german metric system?

can you send me for example a right formatted excel file, which supports the keynote import?

if you use a spreadsheet application you will need to format the whole sheet as a number to two decimal plces

    thats not working...

if i do so, excel convert my value into somthing different.

see my attachements as a proof for your suggestion

from your spreadsheet cells,   you are still using commas

my image below shows from the bottom:

    • spreadsheet from an Excel file,  cells formated to two decimal places in number format
    • copy and pasted into a Keynote table
    • copy and pasted into a graph

    all working correctly

no i know my mistake, its the language-setting! it must set on USA.

but if you see in my screen, keynote converts it in the data-editor into dates!

its equal if one or two digits after point. if the value is a date, it makes into a date.

can you please make a screenshot from your data-editor and what happens,

when you type there values similar to date-formates?

can you try entering data  in British English, which is what my region is?

    screen grabs as requested:

    1

    using Openoffice to enter data

cells formatted as number & 2 decimal places, in form of 1234.12

    format cells.png

    2

copy from Open office and pasted into Keynote chart data editor

i do so, but the problem is still there. it seems that keynote dominates the date-/language-/formatting. yesterday i tried to change my system language to us english. i dont know anymore if it was better?! should i try to change the system to britisch english? the keynote "auto-correction" ***** ;(

what you are showing is actually what i want, i am perplexed why this wont work for me?!

notice, when i copy/paste the values from openoffice to a keynote table, all is ok.

a copy/paste from this table into data-editor is the same effect like directly from openoffice...

If Keynote is causing this its well worth some software maintenance, you wont loose any projects doing this

    delete keynote from applications folder

delete the file:  .com.apple.iwork.Keynote.plist      from:    users > home > library  > preferences

    shut down the mac

restart and press shift key imediatly after the chime sound

keep shift pressed until the apple logo appears

let the mac run while on the gray screen, it is repairing the software and will take 10 mins or so

when the desktop appears  go to applications > utilities > disc utility > first aid and repair permissions

    reboot normally

So, i delete the keynote.app and the plist?

i normally use "app-cleaner" – should i only move the keynote.app into trashcan?

after your steps i download and install keynote again from app-store regulary?

1 - yes use app cleaner as you have it, ideally all Keynote files should be deleted so you can replace all Keynote files.

    2 -  empty  trash

    3 - perform this maintenance:

         shut down the mac

restart and press shift key imediatly after the chime sound

keep shift pressed until the apple logo appears

let the mac run while on the gray screen, it is repairing the software and will take 10 mins or so

when the desktop appears  go to applications > utilities > disc utility > first aid and repair permissions

    4 - reboot normally

5  - then reinstall Keynote downloaded from from app store.

    Hey there again,

unfortunatly all this makes no change - the same problem as before.

i made again some testings and made screenshots of it:

practically the change in excel/openoffice/numbers from commata to point is not necessary.

keynote supports the commata (metric system), but not the multiple-cell-copying!

attached you see a screenshot of my values in excel with commata- and points-rows.

and a screenshot what happens in keynote with the various copying-methods.

notice: the first row is exactly what i want. only possible when i copy cell by cell!

    - but this makes no sense, because my othe file has hundreds of values in it!

I still cant replicate your problem, everything works for me.

Send your test spreadsheet and I will try importing your data into Keynote.
