    Just dragging this back up the list so it doesn't get forgotten.

    Can you tell us what the MBP's model identifier is, and what disc you used to load the OS and what disc  you're using to load the applications.

    Model identifier is from the Apple menu;

     > About this Mac > More Info > hardware overview (the default page) > Model Identifier.

    Can you confirm that that is MacBook Pro8.1?

    i used the same included disks that i got during purchasing the lappy. For both- OS and APPLICATION CD. nothing new ! OS successfully installed. but wen i inserted the Application CD, it reads it quite well. the CD icon appears on the desktop. But its not installing. its sayas--INSTALLATION FAILED and CONTACT SERVICE PROVIDER !! Now plz help me out. i stay in India.

    I'd like to help you out,but I may not know enough here.

    First I assume you've tried cleaning the DVD and checking for scratches and such?

    One problem that's sometimes encountered with the Applications DVD is an expired certificate. I would normally expect the error message to say that, though.

    Nevertheless, if cleaning the disc doesn't help, try going to System Preferences > Date and Time.

    Uncheck (remove the tick mark) the option at the top to automatically set date and time.

    You can then alter the system date back to 2011. Click 'save'.

    Now try your installer disc again.

    Afterwards just go back and reset the auto date function.
