Email in Exchange inbox disappear in Mail

    of course your milage may vary, but in my scenerio, I need to check that the "autodiscover" is set to off every time I launch Mail from scratch.  It's fine once it's running but when I close it and re-open it I need to double check otherwise I end up with blank emails :-/

    Have you tried to delete the Mail index files AND remove the "use autodiscover" feature at the same time?

     

    Has used it on two computers (MBA and iMac) and they work fine now.

     

    The only thing, is that without the autodiscover feaure turned on, my work Exchange server is not connected all the time, so I have to use "Take all accounts online" to check mail. But the mail boxes are behaving fine now.

    I deleted the automatic setup of the Exchange account, and then added a new account manually (using the option key). That seemed to work for a while, but now I see that the Autodiscover feature has been re-enabled automatically by Mail. I try to turn it off, but it comes back on.

     

    Haven't tried messing with the index. Do you disable Autodiscover, then quit Mail, then delete the index? Is that what you mean by "at the same time"?

    Hi,

     

    I'm not sure if MAIL actualy can or will reset a changed setting. I guess the autodiscover feature might be part of the set up of the Exchange server. In my settings are are indicated a mail server "autodiscover.xxxxx.dk" - do you have that? I have not tried it, but you could try to delete that part also.

     

    My process was this: Turn of the autodiscover feature in MAIL settings. Closed MAIL. Deleted any file that begins with “Envelope Index" in the folder ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData - as indicated in the Apple support page

    I have this same problem.  My mailbox contains about 50,000 messages, so every time this problem occurs, it literally takes about a half hour to re-build my inbox.

     

    I followed all of the procedures in this thread.  I turned off autodiscover, closed mail, deleted the "Evelope Index" files in the library, and then re-opened Mail.  Autodiscover was re-checked when I opened the mail app, and my inbox had to re-build.  It finally re-built after about a half hour, I walked away from my computer for three minutes, came back... INBOX WAS EMPTY AGAIN.

     

    Please, please, please, come up with a legitimate fix for this Apple.  PLEASE.  Don't make me go back to using Outlook... the search feature on it is so useless it hurts me, it can't even find an email visible at the top of my inbox when I search for it's subject line.  But... Outlook doesn't empty out my Exchange Server mailboxes every day and cause me a half hour of email downtime.

    I went back to Outlook.

     

    Bummer.  Outlook's search *****.  Apple Mail's search is the best, but I simply cannot deal with my inbox clearing out and having to re-build for 30 minutes twice a day.

    I had this problem when I initially set up my accout. All my folders showed up but the inbox didn't.  I two finger clicked on the account and went to "Get Account Info" and then double clicked on "Inbox"  Immediately the mail showed up.

    Your issue is different from what we discuss here: That individual messages in various mailboxes seems to disappear.

    Another simple possible solution: until Apple fixes this issue, keep two viewer windows open, one with the exchange inbox and the other with whichever other box you need to look at.

    brucengena1215, you may have hit the nail on the head: I don't think Apple Mail can handle multiple Exchange accounts.

    I was experiencing all of the various syncing problems discussed in this and other threads. I have had three Exchange accounts running over the last few months, which roughly coincides with when the problems appeared.

    So, I turned off two accounts, leaving only one Exchange account. Then, I added back one of the inactivated Exchange accounts as a new account, only this time I added it as an IMAP account.

    In the remaining account (Exchange type account), I unticked 'Use Autodiscover service'. Now this stays unticked, unlike before.

    Note also, I did try setting up all of the Exchange accounts with IMAP settings, but the syncing issues persisted.

    My two Exchange accounts (one now IMAP) have been working fine for 24 hours now………….

    MackSki: Something still doesn't make sense. In my case, I have multiple Exchange accounts. It all works fine on my MBPr. It's a mess on our iMac.

    Perhaps try the IMAP trick on the iMac and if the MBPr is happy, don't touch it.  Incidentally, my problems were on both MBPr and iMac & I have only tested this out on the MBPr so far.

    That is really strange I have 3 exchange accounts and they all work fine now after I unchecked the autodiscover.  I have a old 2007 MBP running Lion and a 2012 MBA running mountain lion and they both work.

     

    Occasionally I will get the spinning beachball if I have not used them for a while and a couple hundred emails stack up but once all the unread emails and junk mail has been cleared up then they run fine.

    That signifies that the autodiscover (at the server end) has been setup incorrectly, turning it off on your clients is the 2nd best solution (getting the IT Dept to fix their end is the 1st, but not always easiest solution)

    Unfortunately 2 exchange account is with go daddy and one is with my office using Smarsh.  I'll check with them. What should I tell them to check?
