I've noticed that if I use the shutdown or restart dialogue and uncheck "Reopen windows when logging back in", it heeds my preference and will NOT open windows when logging back in…

BUT, if I bypass the shutdown or restart dialogue with the keyboard shortcut to shutdown / restart (cmd+opt+ctrl+eject / cmd+ctrl+eject), despite my preference being saved -- (I know this because any time I bring up the shutdown dialogue, the box is still unchecked) -- my computer reopens all apps and windows that I had open when shutting down.

(This is not a question in reference to reopening windows in specific applications -- it's about reopening all apps and all windows upon booting up.)

The only solution I've found to this problem is here, and it works, but I wonder if I'm making some mistake somewhere:

I'm running the latest update of Mountain Lion, 10.8.2, I've called AppleCare to no avail, and already submitted feedback to Apple. If anyone has further advice, I'm dying to hear it!

Cheers!
