Ever since I UPGRADED to a latest version of iTunes yestrday I have been unable to play AudioBooks. I get a screen that asks for my user id and password and after I enter it I get a screen that says "Could not authorize this computer because you do not have enough computer access privileges." According to the help site on audible.com this is a Windows error message (yet I am on a Mac). http://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3865/~/itunes-activation-err or%3A-could-not-authorize-this-computer-because-you-do-not

Any ideas? I think its a Audible issue and have contacted them.

    I solved the problem

    Original Message
I have downloaded the audio books and was able to listen to them just fine

until yesterday when I UPGRADED iTunes. Ever since then I am receiving this

error message when I attempt to play one of the audio books.

"Could not authorize this computer because you do not have enough computer

    access privileges."

    RESOLUTION

    1. Quit iTunes (iTunes menu > Quit iTunes).

    2. Browse to the following location on the computer: MAC Hard Drive > Library > Preferences

    3. Press CTRL and click the mouse button (equivalent of right-click on a PC) on the folder, Preferences, and select Get Info.

    4. Ensure that the Privileges for all the Names under Sharing & Permissions are set to Read & Write.

Note: You may have to select the lock in the lower right hand corner and enter in the administrative password before you are able to change the Permissions.

    5. Launch iTunes and attempt to play an Audible title. When prompted to activate simply enter in the Audible username and password and select OK. Once the activation window goes away and the title starts playing, pause the title.

    6. With iTunes still open, browse to the following location on the computer:  MAC Hard Drive > Library > Preferences

    7. In the Preferences folder will be a file called com.audible.data.plist. Press CTRL and click the mouse button (equivalent of right-click on a PC) on the file, com.audible.data.plist, and select Get Info.

    8. Ensure that the Privileges for all the Names under Sharing & Permissions are set to Read & Write.

Note: You may have to select the lock in the lower right hand corner and enter in the administrative password before you are able to change the Permissions.

    9. Launch iTunes again and attempt to play an Audible title. When prompted to activate enter in the Audible username and password and select OK. Once the activation window goes away and the title starts playing, quit iTunes. Launch iTunes again and attempt to play the same Audible title. If the title plays, then you have fixed the issue. If prompted to activate, proceed to step 10.

    10. Quit iTunes and browse to the following location on the computer: MAC Hard Drive > Library > Preferences

    11. In the Preferences folder delete the file com.audible.data.plist.

    12. Launch iTunes again and attempt to play an Audible title. When prompted to activate enter in the Audible username and password and select OK. Once the activation window goes away and the title starts playing, quit iTunes. Launch iTunes again and attempt to play the same Audible title.

I have the same problem.  I've been using Audible on the same 20" iMac for 2 years.  I just moved overseas, had my computer turned off for a month, then updated software including iTunes.  Running Mac OS 10.6.8 with iTunes 10.4 (80).  I have administrative privileges.  I've made user my Preferences folder and Audible .plist are authorized for all users on the computer.  Still getting the same error.  Very annoying after paying hundreds of dollars for these books over the last 2 years.

I emailed Audible and their staff replied quickly.  We figured it out in two replies.  They told me to do the same as listed above, first.  When that didn't work, we next tried to delete the com.audible.data.plist while logged out of iTunes.  When that didn't work, they had me Repair Permissions with Disk Utility.  Still didn't work, but I began again from the top with the steps mentioned above and finally got it fixed when I changed [MacHD]:Library:Preferences (again) to authorize all users on the computer.

I was told that the only error in playing audible content had to do with the latest iTunes upgrade not supporting Type 4 audible book files. I can play these on my iPod, but not on my computer. I tried downloading a book in Type 3 format, but the sound quality was crappy! I hope iTunes fixes the problem(s) soon as I would rather switch music software than re-download multiple books from audible.

I know this is an older thread, but I ran into this same issue; unable to play or transfer/sync audible.com books on my iMac/iPhone (OS X 10.8.2 and iOS 6.0.1 w/iTunes 11.0.1) and I found a fix so I thought I'd add what worked for me.

My Audible ID wasn't working but I chalked that up to having canceled my subscription a few months ago. I tried logging in to audible.com but no luck.  However I was able to sign in using my Amazon.com ID.  Although I was able to download any of my books again, I still received the authorization error message when I tried to play or transfer them (even using my Amazon.com ID).  To resolve this here's what I had to do…

I went to audible.com > Sign In and clicked on the "forgot my password" link.  I used my Amazon.com email address and received an email with a link to change my password.  I changed my password and then was able to log into audible.com.  This actually ended up changing my Amazon password too so both use the same username and password now.

I'm now able to play and transfer/sync my audible.com books.

Hope this helps anyone that follows.

This works at the time I am writing this! You must reset your password, then use your new password and email then it will work. Such a stupid annoyance god just awful.
