2 FCP X anomalies -

OK, here goes...this is a two-parter but the first is not such a big deal from a working pov -

1. once I place a clip on the timeline, the graphic disappears. It's not an impediment to working on the video, because I'm not really using that to look at the clip, right? but it's not the way things are supposed to be.

2. The next problem is bigger, I can't view clips in the event viewer anymore. The cursor doesn't move, hitting l or j or / or the > button, nothing happens. The only way to view the clip is to pull the cursor across it (not very good) or drop it on the timeline and crop it there (really not good). This is not how it's supposed to work!

I reinstalled FCP X, updated all my software and for about 1 minute, it worked correctly again, couldn't use the keyboard, but at least the > button worked. Then it just stopped working again.

Does this sound like anything anyone's come across before?

Thanks.

No promises but corrupt preferences can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.

    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-

    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.

    2. Click Trash

The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.

There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.

The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

No idea what this means. What graphic?

    2. What Ian said.

What's the computer, complete specs, including graphcis card? What's the media, complete specs? Can you post a screen shot of what you actually see in the timeline?

There's no codec and frame rate in your video information. Has this been optimized? It looks like it's come from a DSLR. Go back to the project library. Select the project and trash the project render files from the File menu.

It's MVI that comes from Canon Powershots   .    .   .   .   a format based on AVI causing problems to people using every type of editor.

I was going by the MVI name on every clip.

I assume you have shot normal AVCHD  .  .  .  .  just wondered why the clips had the MVI, or is that a Canon way of naming?

Do those clips have audio? Is timeline appearance set to show video? Open one of the clips in the QT player and give the complete specs that appeare in the movie inspector.
