1-time swap? Don't let anybody tell you that. Last night I received my SIXTH replacement iPhone 5. Yes ....6th.
My 4th phone was the charm until the phone itself started to fail (all buttons, screen touch, screen brightness, etc.) inside of 90-days. I was given a 5th replacement phone last Saturday. That same night I realized that the phone was another brick. It wouldn't connect to the internet while on Wifi. I tried various locations with public wifi as well as my work router over the course of 3 days. Same results. I restored the phone as new and it still would not connect. I recorded multiple videos and took countless screencaps to prove my case because the phones always work at the Apple Store. Always!
So I called Apple Care and was transferred to a Senior Advisor who looked at pages and pages of notes from my last 5 swaps. He was very understanding and authorized another replacement. But of course, once at the Apple Store, the phone worked like a charm. The Genius NICELY said "sorry, I'm not giving you another phone." He didn't care that I could prove it soundly. He didn't care about this forum. He said he could make it work fine, so I was stuck with it. I wouldn't hear of it! I asked NICELY to speak to his supervisor. He went in the back to get him and was gone for almost 10 minutes, but came out with a replacement phone instead. He NICELY said he didn't agree with his supervisor at all but that he was told to replace the phone anyway. He "very begrudgingly" did so (his words). Again, he was very nice about it, so I have to hand it to him. He really didn't want to give it to me and hated that he was overruled.
So, don't let them railroad you. If your phone doesn't work after what you paid for it, they need to keep replacing it until you are happy. Especially when it comes to this Wifi issue. It is HUGE and they sincerely need to figure it out. Until then, they need to keep replacing the duds. Period!
Thankfully this SIXTH iPhone5 works like a charm!!
Also I can report having major Battery Drain issues with iOS 6.1 on my iPhone 5 Verizon 64GB. Current Usage is 2 hrs 23 mins, 16 hrs 14 min standby @ 55%.I've barely touched the phone all day, made no calls it just drians. The solution is NOT to erase my phone and set up as new. That is unaccepable, it worked fine under iOS 6.0.2 and I should not have to restore my phoneand lose my music etc. Apple better address these issues, this is beyond unacceptable for a $500 device that touts itself as the easiest phone to use. BS
my iphone just connects if im very close to the wifi antenna , otherwise it appear the connection but when you try to conect it writes " it´s not possible to connect " . i live in brazil and spent 750 dolllars with this iphone . what can i do ? i have already reset it but still the same **** .
Makes you wonder why he gives a **** if you have to get 10 to get a working one. They are not deducting his paycheck are they? Especially if his boss understands that there are a lot of bad units apparently.Geez.

I have had wifi issues since Sept. 21st, now on my 2nd iPhone 5 (replaced for button issue), and, I waited for ios 6.1 to hopefully fix the issue...seems to have NOT.
APPLE ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE WIFI ISSUE AND FIX IT!
I don't care what they do to their own routers, I don't care what they think others should do with their routers. I had very rare connection problems with previous iphone. Right now, it is mostly fine at home (though once in a while I'll be on my iphone 5 at home and look up and notice the wifi symbol changed to 4G at some unknown point in time, at which time I power cycle my phone).
I DON'T CARE WHAT APPLE SAYS, THE ISSUE IS WITH SOMETHING THEY HAVE DONE IN IOS 6! ADDRESS IT AND FIX IT!
I'm very tired of leaving the house to places I had ZERO connection problems previous to iphone 5/ios6 (previous iphone), and it takes a while to connect, and then it doesn't seem to stay connected, wifi symbol comes and goes as I wait and wait and wait for that spinning ball, or sometimes wait for it to connect at all when choosing the wifi connection manually...finally having to give up and let it use my NOT-UNLIMITED CELL DATA connection! TIRED OF THIS!! OVER 4 MONTHS AND THREE UPDATES LATER, SAME ISSUE IS STILL THERE! I'll admit, a slight improvement since 6.0.2, but only slight.
Again, APPLE, THIS IS A BASIC FUNCTION OF THE IPHONE, PLEASE MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO MAKE THIS WORK! QUIT MAKING EXCUSES ABOUT HOW WELL IT WORKS ON YOUR OWN ROUTERS AND MAKE IT WORK WITH OTHERS AS WELL, just like iOS 5.1.1 did.
For anyone that thinks they need new hardware: this is most definitely a software issue as people with older iphones and ios 6 have the same issue, don't bother with anyone's tips and tricks for making it work, for most this is a waste of time.
EDIT: Let me add, sometimes I will have my iPad (1) with me (iOS 5.1.1) and it will connect JUST FINE, but the iPhone 5 w/IOS 6.x WILL HAVE WIFI ISSUES WITH THE SAME WIFI CONNECTION! Newer is supposed to be better, is it not??

When the guy at Apple told me a couple days ago since they couldn't duplicate the connection issue, I just said look, I don't want to do the exchange because my battery life rocks and it was a new phone not possibly a refurb. replacement I may get, so I want the exchange due to I have no choice, and IF my iPhone fails again, due to the evidence I've shown you I will deal with another replacement from Apple and I WILL get it. So no problem, give me my swap out. He just looked at me. LOL So, I'd not let it go either. I just hope I don't have to deal with going into Apple for this reason. So far, 2 days and mine is still working.
Unless that is sarcasm, you are incorrect if multiple other iPhones, iPads and computers do not have the problem connecting to WiFi on the same network.
if it worked at the apple store...you have a network issue at home....
Kirt252, not sure if you are referring to me, but if you are, I completely disagree.
The ONLY place the phone connected EVER is at the Apple Store. It would not connect ANYwhere else. Never. NOT ONCE. Even restored as a new phone, it did NOT connect. I tested it for 3 days in multiple locations. Target, a shopping mall, 2 Starbucks, 3 residential routers, 4 workplace environments and my own home router. My husband's 4S, my daughter's 3 and my sisters 4 worked fine and my 4th phone worked absolutely fine at all those locations.
The fact that all iphones work at the Apple Store and nowhere else does not mean the phone is good. That simple is not true. At all.
Oh, been through all that and more. Way past that. I traded my iPhone in 2 days ago and it connected and has stayed connected so far without a problem. Plain and simple after the 6.01 update it hosed up the iPhone I had. Coincidence? Reading all the above comments, I think not. Anyway this solution below worked on the corrupted iPhone 5 for 2 minutes, the same as turning on and off the Wifi, or walking down the street and coming back home - it'd connect momentarily then drop off if you do what you suggested. Not a fix for anyone having this WiFi dropping issue.
Reset your router
And wait 10 sec power off Iphone and wait to power on on phone then turn router on Then turn Iphone on then connect
