You can do it. Apple has made this a user-serviceable part. Meaning you can service this yourself without voiding any warranties. It should take you less than 10 minutes. If you are a pro it could take you less than 5! However don't rush, take your time, follow the instructions, and everything will go fine.

There should no problem in installing 8 GB RAM in your MBP. Crucial is one of the best sources of RAM for Macs. Now if you are so inclined, you can install 16 GB from OWC, the other reliable source for Mac RAM.
