I love OS X, but dealing with this issue last year had me very upset too. Especially because other macs I owned did not suffer from the same issue. Here's what I would try: 1. If there are any user accounts you don't need delete them. Disable the guest account. 2. Restart in install disc or spare partion mode and run iDisk, Repair Permissions from there. Then reboot. 3. If you still have the issue (and my strongest suspicion here) it's likely do to plugins that Reader left behind. Need to go into Library/plugins and find the plistt files. Search online for manually removing your version of reader for the files and locations. Empty trash and reboot afterward. This should work. The upgrade isn't wasted because 10.8 handles SaveAs infinitely better than 10.7.

I guess you have the same problem as I had (due to "exotic" color profile). I found the solution here: http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=146381 (last entry on page). Opened it with PS, changed color profile and no more problems!

I have the same problem, on a brand new Macbook Air, so it can't be issues from Reader.

Specifically, on a Macbook Air running 10.8 AND STILL after updating to 10.8.2, which has never had Reader installed:
I open an image, for which I have all permission, in Preview
I "duplicate" the image.
I resize the image.
I try to save the image - but it says "document xxx could not be saved"

In preview after you resize the image click on file then hold down the options key duplicate will change to Save as.

Nope. Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and still doesn't work. obi010 hint also doesn't work. Nothing works.
It's a 16.5 mb tiff, just 2k x 2k pixels, any other editor can edit just fine. Probably older preview app could do it too. This one, just gives every kind of error of any kind of edition I try to do, and none are descriptive enough to tell me the problem is on itself and how it can't handle a big image. Lamest thing I've ever seem from apple.

In the 10 years I have owned a MAC, this is the second time I have ever made a comment on this board. Since upgrading to 10.8.4, I can no longer simply resize a photo in Preview and save it. All of the above suggestions did not work. I'm ready to throw this machine out of my window. How could they make somethign that was so basic, simple and helpful, so incredibly frustrating and inconvenient? Dumb move.

I don't have, and never had a problem editing files in Preview.
You should start a new thread and indicate the steps you are performing and the response you get.

You should also choose the Mountain Lion forum for your post. This is for 10.7.
