    My husband and I have been having the same problem... he with his iPhone5 and me with my iPhone4s. He took it to the Apple store, where they replaced it and told him the problem might be an old or damaged SIM card that he may want to have replaced. So, he took the new phone, replaced the old SIM with a new one and the problems started again. He repeated the process, yet again... new phone and new SIM. Same thing happened. The phone would get very hot and the battery would drop from 100% to about 30% within a half hour. Reading several forums we realized it only happened when we used mobile data ... the phones remained normal when using WLAN. As soon as we were outside somewhere and had to use the mobile network, it would heat up and drain the battery quickly. This has happened since 6.2 came out. It's obviously an iOS problem, which Apple needs to fix.....as soon as they can. PLEASE!  It's very nerve wracking! We rely on these things all day. We need a new fix update ASAP!

    Just to report that the Exchange fix worked for my 4s.

    After the 6.1 upgrade it was draining from 100% charge to 10% in four hours with little use.

    All I did was delete and re-install my Exchange account and this is the current state of play.

    Out of curiosity, are there reports of the issue on phones that have been bought with 6.1 installed? If not, the issue has to do with the update process rather than with the new firmware itself.

    And in that case, what might be a sure way to avoid being bitten by the issue is to do a full backup followed by a full device reset/wipe BEFORE applying the update. This is what I might try myself if I really cannot hold out on 6.0.1 any longer.

    FWIW, I saw that 6.1.1 ß1 has been seeded, no word however if it's supposed to address battery issues.

    OK, an update to my saga.

    My iphone 5 was working fine until the 6.1 update, and then started running hot, and burning battery like crazy.

    I tried several suggestions I read online, which didn't work, and then took the phone in to the Apple store.  The tech deleted my Exchange account and created a new one, which seemed to fix the problem - for almost a day.

    Then the same problem started all over again.  I could see that it was still related to Exchange, which was constantly sending me calendar notifications for the same meeting over and over.  I had Exchange set up for "push', which is the default. I switched it to "fetch every 15 minutes", which helped quite a bit.  However, not a long term acceptable solution for me, since I get a lot of emails that I need to respond to rapidly at my company.

    So yesterday I bit the bullet and did a "restore as new" followed by "restore from backup".  During this process, I noticed that an "update from your wireless carrier" (Verizon) was installed.  Not sure if that is a recent release related to this problem or not.

    I set Exchange back to "push".  The phone held charge overnight, and was still at 100% in the morning.  I was a little shocked.  Will have to wait to see if the problem resurfaces, but so far so good.

    Something was bugging me.  My buddy at work has the same phone, and the same settings as me (push), and hooked into the same Exchange server, and wasn't seeing the issue at all after updating to 6.1.  Also, my ipad was not experiencing problems, it was only my iphone 5.  Maybe something went wrong during the original ios 6.1 update.  I know my iphone was not connected to a power source at that time (but it had a full battery), but my ipad was connected to the charger when it updated.  Maybe that was it, although the phone seemed to have plenty of charge left after the update.

    It is a bit of a hassle having to reinstall all the apps, etc.  But there is hope, at least.  I'll update the thread if my hopes are dashed yet again.

    i, too have issues with the latest software... iPhone 4 running 6.0.1

    So, do i need to go to iCloud, and back it up, then reformat the damned thing? I'm a PC guy, so Apple stuff is a new World.

    Hi All,

    I too "had" the same battery problem. My battery wouldn't last more than a few hours. I don't have an exchange account and so couldn't try that fix. I tried the network fix / battery drain / email fix etc without any success.

    So, what I did was re-download 6.1 from the apple website and forced itunes to use that new downloaded version by pushing on the "option" key on a mac and clicking on restore phone at the same time. (on windows you hit the 'shift' key i think).

    So far it has been working great. (it is true that today I put my email accounts on manual instead of fetch)

    I was mostly on wifi / 3G quite often (don't have LTE where I live) / played temple run a few times / used facebook / sent a couple emails / made a few phone class and few texts. / redownloaded all the apps i used to have and some other light uses.

    My battery is at 64% with the following stats: 3h35min usage and 10h53min standby.

    I will keep you updated and see if this is really working.

    Hope this helps.

    Here's what I tried seems to be a lil better but still not the best. I let phone charge to %100 then closed all apps out and cut phone off and on and then with all apps still closed I did a hard reset with power and home button. Right now I'm at 89% with 2hrs standby and 1 1/2 hr usage.

    3 days now after resetting my phone to factory and then restoring via iTunes, my battery is still doing just as we'll as before I updated to 6.1.

    After 6.1 my battery was dying in 6 hours, after resetting and restoring back to 6.1 I am still at 50% at the end of the day.

    Complete Restore and put it on airplane mode for about an hour. I am back to increased battery life as it was in iOS 6.0.1. Goodluck everyone.

    From one of the posting in this thread, i tried only to put my iPhone 4S into airplane mode for an hour, without all the restoring exercises, and killed all the running apps.  I switched the phone off of airplane mode, and so far, battery performance is almost back to an acceptable level, AND without the over-heating.  Currently, the phone is at 72%, with Usage at 2 hrs, 32 mins, and Standby at 8 hrs, 9 mins.

    Good luck to all and I also hope a fix comes out SOON.

    Follow-up on my first two posts - you may recall;

    1). install 6.1 on 4S - battery drains from full to flat wilst on standby in under 2 hours

    2). "Reset Network Settings" and closing all open apps seemed to fix the problem

    3). 2-3 days later the problem returned, despite CPU utilisation being reported as approx. 6% according to iStat

    New news;

    4).Followed suggestion to remove/add back Exchange settings - removed iCloud and Google at the same time (for luck)

    5). Phone appears to be operating "as designed" for the last 48 hours (roughly 35% of charge left after full day of 3G phone and data business use)
