I want to group all my "productivity" apps in one icon/folder and other like items together. How do I do this? Also on the iphone the same.

You create a folder by touching and holding an App icon until it begins to shake. You then drag it over another App icon you wish in the folder and release. This creates a folder. You can change the name of the folder. You drag more App icons into the folder the same way.

You can find this information in the iPad Users Guide here: iPad and iPad mini User Guide (For iOS 6.1 Software)

It's the same procedure on either device.

Hold down on an app icon until they all start to quiver. Then drag one icon over another and they will make a folder. You have the opportunity to name the folder, then you can continue to drag in there whatever icons you want.

I do think there is a limit as to how many you can have in a folder but I don't know what that is.

A couple of icons, such as newsstand, will not go into a folder. They're deliberately written not to.
