Q: Macbook Pro freezing  (4MEM/66/40000000)

Hey,

I have a Macbook Pro 13" primo 2011. I've been having this issue with my Macbook where it freezes and beeps three times in an interval until I do a hard reboot. I searched at google, and it seems to be ram relatet, so I have installet Corsair Mac Memory - 2x8GB DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 and a new SSD harddrive, but I still have the problem. I did then make a hardware test and it gives me this error code:

4MEM/66/40000000: 0x830c5a18.

The code seems to be ram related, but I have aldreade changed my ram, so can the problem be my logic board?

Ram issues. The ram is faulty.

Sig is correct.  Macs are very selective about RAM.  If you install your original RAM, the beeps will disappear.  Fortunately you do not have a logic board problem (very expensive repair).  If I am proven correct on using the original RAM, I suggest getting replacement RAM from OWC or Crucial.

I would agree that the RAM chips are the problem. I have a 15" MBP, installed RAM chips from Newegg, had a whole bunch of problems, took them out and put the original chips back in and all the problems went away. After many months, I got PNY chips from Bestbuy and they work fine, no other problems. Agree that OWC or Crucial should be OK too. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my original 4GB (2x2) ram, thats way I in the first place replaced them with the 16GB (8x2) ram today. But unfortunately I had the same problem with the new ones. Thats why i thought it might be the logic board?

But I might have received some ram which was already destroyed. For when I came home from the store, I discovered that the package had already been opened. I have send them a mail and explained them that I want to return the package when I'm home from vacation.

Though it sounds a bit unfortunate I am experiencing the same error with the new RAM, as I do with the old ones. But I've probably just been unlucky

I strongly suggest you go to an Apple store and have this issue diagnosed.  RAM failures are rare but they can occur.  I assume at one time your MBP did function correctly.  I still think the problem lies with the RAM.

    Ciao.

Yes, it worked perfectly for a couple of days ago. So I experienced this problem over a few days, and today I bought the new ram which did not change anything.

I will go to an Apple Store when I get home from vacation and hear if they can help.

PS. Its make 3 beeps = no good banks. What does that exactly mean?

Will just try to swap the rams, just to make sure they sit properly in the blocks.

That means the MBP cannot recognize that there is RAM in the slots.

    Ciao.

No. Sometimes it happens after just 5 minutes, other times 1 hour.  I have not yet seen the error if the Macbook has stood still on a table. Its seems to happen when the Macbook are in motion or I sit with it on my legs.

Since my last post where I decided to swap the ram it had not happened jet. But its properly just a matter of time I hope it have solved the problem but I do not have high hopes.
