Have you tried a powered USB hub?

Feb 7, 2013 8:10 AM in response to Michael Wasleyby AntônioRodrigues ,I have tried the Y cable, and also a powered USB. It's strange that when I connect a USB key it accepts, which means the USB is working.
Just if its a limitation with Tiger.

Feb 7, 2013 8:24 AM in response to AntônioRodriguesby Michael Wasley,Do they appear in Disk Utility?
How are they formatted?
Do they work on other Macs?
Presumably Finder Preferences is set to show External Drives?
(It would have helped if you had said about trying Y cable and Hub in your OP.)

Feb 7, 2013 2:30 PM in response to Michael Wasleyby AntônioRodrigues ,They are formatted as FAT, and it does not appear on the Disk Utility. The inder preference is set to show other hard disks too.
I tried them in my MacBook and shows normally. This macbook is on snow leopard.
I will take it to Mac Store and see if they can suggest a firewire cable for me to use with it.

Feb 7, 2013 11:01 PM in response to Michael Wasleyby AntônioRodrigues ,I have tried a Mac format hdd but no answer from my PB.
It's strange that when I plug my USB HDD I can hear a noise coming from it, like its spinning, but that's as far as it goes, no recognition. I am taking it to Mac store today to try a firewire cable.
I can't use the Genius Bar as its considered vintage unfortunately as its a good machine still.

Feb 12, 2013 2:36 PM in response to AntônioRodriguesby AntônioRodrigues ,Just for an date on that. I decided to buy a firewire 800 external hard disk and connected on the PB. It worked fine so I have sticker on that for time being.
Next step is to try to upgrade Tiger to Leopard but that's another discussion.
However still not sure the mystery on the USB key being accepted and the HDD not. Tried Mac Genius Bar but they simply say they do not support it and that's it.
Well Firewire is quicker than USB anyway.
