My MBP Retina detects all my headphones as a digital device and not as a headphone. (Sometimes it does but most of the time not)

Does anyone have a solution for that ?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

IIRC, the output port is combo analog/digital. A tiny microswitch detects the digital TOSlink cable, which is a tad longer than the standard RCA analog plug. It would appear that it is "stuck on high", so to speak.

Try plugging and unplugging the headphone plug firmly  in there several times to see if that causes a release.

    No it doesn't

I also tried 7 different headphones and a couple of my adaptors from mini jack to another connector, ... Nothing worked. Even the iPhone ears wouldn't work. They did work for a couple of minutes and then tere was a tick and my output switched to digital.

If you peek in the jack, do you see a dot of light? If you do, then it's a mechanical issue and the switch remains stuck.

Else it's a software issue and we'll have to determine which cache, configuration or setup is corrupt and causing the problem.

An hour ago there was this red light that you have with optical connections. But now it's gone but my preferences still says that I have an optical connection. I restarted my laptop a few times and still nothing.

Is my headphone output really dead ?

I just have my MBP back from reparation. After two months my motherboard and display had to be replaced and now this ?

Okay, the red light is still there. So my output isn't dead.
