Hello everyone!

I have an early 15' Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz and i decided to update my RAM from 4gb to 16gb 1600 mhz Corsair Vengeance.

Im using Mountain Lion and everything was ok till i changed my ram.

There are no kernel panics and no problems at all on my mac os if I'm using the integrated graphic card, but if i change it to the dedicated HD 6750M , or if it changes by itself, after a few seconds or minutes i just get a kernel panic.

For example, i opened Safari and i decided to watch a video on youtube. I just got this kernel panic:

The thing is, my computer recognizes the ram ( 16gb 1600mhz ) and everything is so nice...only if i use the integrated graphic card...

Another important thing is : I have no problems if im using Windows 7 64bits with Bootcamp, i can play , watch movies , everything and it also recognizes 16gb 1600mhz.

I really need your help guys ! Because i only have a few days till i can exchange it with the Corsair Mac memory 16gb 1333mhz :/

Thanks in advance!

    If it also helps,

Im on safe mode, watching videos on youtube for 30min already and there are no crashes at all...

So it means that the problems are on the 3rd party software that i may have installed?

For clarification, which MacBook Pro do you have?

Was the original RAM spec 1333mHz? If so, and you have installed 1600mHz RAM, that would be your problem.

    The correct Ram specifications for a 8.2 early 2011 15" MBP are:   204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.

It seems that you installed incompatible RAM.  I suggest that you return it and get the appropriate RAM fr your MBP.

    Ciao.

    I have a MacBook Pro (15-Inch, Early 2011)     MacBookPro8,2

    15.4"/2.2 Quad-core i7/2x2GB/750-5400

Well the original was 4gb 1333Mhz , but i saw a lot of ppl that updated their macbook 8,2 with the same 16gb 1600mhz Corsair Vengeance and they said that they are working 100%.

And like i said, im on safe mode for almost 1h now and no kernel panics , using the dedicated graphics ! If i was doing this on the normal boot, i would get a kernel panic for sure.

Any other suggestion? Thanks a lot for your reply stedman1

Hi OGELTHORPE, thanks for your time aswell!

Well, like i said to stedman1, i saw tons of topics with guys installing the same memory without any problem.

Also, here you can check the max memory speed allowed for this i7 sandy bridge:

    http://ark.intel.com/products/50067/Intel-Core-i7-2720QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-t o-3_30-GHz

    Thanks a lot guys,

    hope you have another suggestion!

  • 6. Re: New 1600Mhz RAM = Kernel Panic , help please
    OGELTHORPE Level 7 Level 7 (25,775 points)

If you had the diagnostic tools to test the clock speed of the RAM in your MBP, I am willing to wager that it will be 1333 Hz.  I experimented with my 2011 and 2010 MBPs, installing the 1333 HZ RAM in the the 2010 MBP running 1066 Hz RAM.  The result was that the RAM was clocked down.  Hence no enhancement.

If you wish your MBP to operate as intended, I suggest replacing the 1600 Hz RAM with RAM with the specifications I mentioned previously.

    Ciao..

Replace the Ram with the correct Ram, I don't know what else to tell you, try putting the original Ram back in and then watching the videos that currently cause a crash.

And FYI, there are 'lots' of people who put faster Ram in their machine and it didn't work, compared to the millions with no problems using the correct speed Ram 'lots' means nothing.

I think that i finally fixed the problem!

It was all about software. Just went to safe boot , deleted every app that i didnt need anymore. Then gfxstatuscard was helping my mac os to crash i think.

The last and the most important thing that i did was delete those loaded kexts:

    com.vara.driver.VaraAudio     1.0.3

    net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio     1.0.5

    com.logmein.driver.LogMeInSoundDriver     1.0.0

    com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt     0.0.67

It could be the memory card, but since i was not having problems on safe mode, it was a software problem ( i hope ).

Im now on normal mode , with both graphic cards having no problems. Im watching youtube videos for more than 20min already and for now not a single crash!

Do you guys think that my problem is gone? I really hope so.

Thanks a lot for your help guys! You re the best.
