Hello All,

I have an old iPhone 3GS backed up to this pre-Intel G5. I need access to the SMS text message that are living on here somewhere (hopefully). Everything I see points me towards 3rd party apps that will only function on newer OS. I bought PhoneView and it's excellent for my Mac Book Air and my iPhone 5 but it won't work on this 10.4.11 G5. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

3G, iOS 4

Contact the developers of the software application.

This has nothing to do with iPhones or iTunes.

The Apple solution is to restore the backup to a device and view the text messages there.

Beyond that, third party software would be required to extract the data from the backups.  Again, not an iPhone or iTunes issue.

    A) This has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone and is completely off topic for this forum.

    B) Why don't you try copying the backup files to your MacBook Air and see if you can read them there. That would seem to be the simplest solution, especially considering you're not going to find much of anything new that will run on a G5 these days.

If anything, this belongs in the iTunes forum. The backup file lives in iTunes.

    iTunes for Mac

You'll probably have more luck getting a useful answer there.
