I set up my phone with Google Sync (using Exchange) a few months ago for push. I know Google stopped new accounts from using this method after Jan 30th. However, I have to restore my phone as new due to some issues. Will I still be able to set up Google Sync or am I screwed? Thanks!

You can try and if it's not working you have to contact Google.

I don't want to try it and then lose the Exchange access that I already have.

Before you do, contact Google and ask them. I have to pass.

It's not at all clear to me if you'll be able to continue to use ActiveSync after a restore.

Here's some information on how to set up your phone if you can't:

There's also a link at the beginning of the article to information about the Google decision. I haven't looked at it in a while, though.

    Best of luck.

I actually had to replace my wife's ipad yesterday. Google exchange account stopped working on replacement unit (restored from itunes and then erased and restored from icloud). it just restored as regular gmail. Instructions that Meg provided are also available at google support site, but it only syncs contacts. That was enough for me. Thank you HOTMAIL for still providing exchange service!

Thanks fromsouth. You're wife replaced the entire unit though, correct? Like it's a new device? I want to do a fresh restore on my current device and I'm wondering if Google Exchange sync will still work after that.

I'm quite curios about that myself. I don't if the specific device is some how registered with Google and therefore will get to keep it even after a restore or, if it's just a question of maintaining ActiveSync on the device and once you stop, you can't use it again. I suspect the latter, though. Some posted a few days ago having used Exchange to connect to calendars in the past but they had stopped. When they tried again, on the same phone, after 1 Feb, it didn't work.

If you have to restore the device, I hope you'll get a chance to post back and let us know what happens.

    Best of luck.

The fun part that I could have given the correct answer two days ago. I went to apple store with restored original pad, but they didn't have replacement at stock. I had to restore from icloud back up. But since I knew that I am turning unit in, I didn't check if that was exchange or gmail. Sorry.

@Meg, I would not underestimate Google, people use restores from icloud all the time, like getting new iphones and restoring from old one. Purpose of that change Google made, is to make people pay for premium service. I am not sure but... I think they can read more info about device then we would suspect, just like itunes store.
