You installation doesn't look right.. your config directory should be /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix

    What happens when you run

sudo ps -aux | grep master

    You should see:

         master -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix

  • 3. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    picarda27 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    Hello UptimeJeff,
    Thanks for the reply.

I have: ps: No user named 'x'

*Note that I can get my email now...but trying to find the correct settings in my application MAIL.

  • 4. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    UptimeJeff Level 4 Level 4 (3,390 points)

sorry bout that.. was just typing with muscle memory. change that to:

sudo ps aux | grep master

  • 5. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    picarda27 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Yes, i have this now: master -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix

But, what should be the smtp settings in my application Mail?

(it says my smtp is offline...)

    Thanks again.

  • 6. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    UptimeJeff Level 4 Level 4 (3,390 points)

If postfix isn't starting up, then you won't be able to use SMTP in your mail app.

    What do you get with

         sudo postfix status

If you get no results, then postfix isn't listening on port 25

Considering you see that postfix fatal error, I doubt its running.

    What do you get with

    sudo postfix -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix check

  • 7. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    UptimeJeff Level 4 Level 4 (3,390 points)

Well.. your postfix is up and reachable from the outside world

    $ telnet merlin.macwebservers.com 25

    Trying 67.212.81.243...

    Connected to merlin.macwebservers.com.

    Escape character is '^]'.

    220-merlin.macwebservers.com ESMTP Postfix

    So thats good news..

As far as what to enter in your mail client.

Enter the same hostnamename, user and pw you enter for imap.

  • 8. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    picarda27 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    This seem ok

    sudo postfix status:

postfix/postfix-script: the Postfix mail system is running: PID: 15249

But this sudo postfix -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix check give error:

    merlin:~ root# sudo postfix -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix check

Those other permissions errors are warnings, they should cause it not to startup.

So.. do you still see the throttling error?

If not, then you should be operational.

  • 11. Re: bad command startup -- throttling

    No more throttling error!

I get emails, But unable to send email from MAIl.

    (wrong settings ?)

  • 12. Re: bad command startup -- throttling

use the same hostname, user/password you have entered for imap...

    select cram-md5 for authentication.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to provide your settings if you want an opinion. Send both imap and smtp settings.

  • 13. Re: bad command startup -- throttling
    picarda27 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Thank for your time I appreciate it.

I use the same settings from my imap, very weird.
    Because I don't see cram-md5 in MAIL so, I use: MD5 Challenge-Response

    Need more settings informations?

if I test my smtp server at: https://www.wormly.com/test_smtp_server

I have this erro: EHLO not accepted from server

    Something in my main.cf?
