My iPad has no sound.  I've tinkered with the settings.  I've restored the settings.  I've erased the iPad of all content.  Nothing has helped.  I read somewhere that iOS 5.1.1 upgrade may have caused this.  Is there a solution???  Can I revert back to a previous iOS?

Do you get sounds in any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not others ? If you do get sound in Music and Videos then check what Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), and you can either mute/unmute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

In terms of downgrading the iOS version then no, that is not supported

If you get sound in the Music an Videos apps then that implies that you have notifications muted

Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. If the switch is set to control notification mute, then you've also checked what position the switch that it refers to is in i.e. the switch on the right-hand side of the iPad above the volume control ?

(If the switch is controlling mute, then the icon on the taskbar will control rotation lock - one function is contolled by the switch, the other via the taskar.)

Have you checked the postion of the switch on the right-hand side of the iPad above the volume control :

All the 'Use Side Switch To' is saying what that switch does.
