Using the Method "iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive" will this just copy the songs, or also playlists and everything i had in itunes before.

I want to reformat my mac. So now i am looking how to copy all my music and playlists.

Thanks in advance!

Yes it will.  Once you consolidate, as the article describes, the iTunes folder contains all the song files, as well as all the library info such as playlists and ratings.

When you back up, make a copy of the entire iTunes folder.  Ditto when you restore.

What Consolidate does is to look at all the tracks in your library, and if it sees any that are not already in your iTunes Media folder,  it puts a copy there.

If you have always had "Copy filles..." selected, and have not ever changed the Media folder or otherwise disrupted things, then you already have all your files in your media folder.  In that case, Consolidate will not be necessary.  Just copy your entire iTunes folder.
