I don't know what this means.
It doesn't mean anything. Repairing permissions is usually a waste of time, and it usually spews meaningless warnings like that one.
Could it be my HP wireless printer?
And if so, why would it not always show?
A good question. Maybe the printer is dropping off the network some of the time.
I've found that when my computer is running slow, and the spinning ball is going round and round a lot when trying to open stuff, that after repairing permissions it seems to run much better for a few weeks and then I have to do it again. But I also tend to leave my computer on all the time with web open, usually to facebook.
but i don't understand why the shared would come and go. I did thing perhaps it was my printer but printer has been in sleep mode when it shows up. How do I find the ip adress or the hp# that goes with my printer so I can see if thats it.
This is the first time I've lived in town in 18 years, my house was broken into the very first day I was moving but only furniture so nothing taken but I'l admit i'm a tad jumpy about everything right now
My guess is that you're seeing some other computer on your local network. Cable networks and some DSL systems are shared among a number of users and so can constitute a "local" network and hence anyone who has file sharing or printer sharing set up on their system can appear. It's harmless and does not mean that anyone can get into your system.
As to an SUID message in Repair Permissions, those are normal status messages, though not well explained, and can be ignored. See:
So then here is my final issue. I am unable to access the App Store. When I open the icon it simply states connection failed to the App Store. So I had Apple look into it but because my applie ID's work on my iphone and ipad, and they checked them out in troubleshooting mode and also said they work, they said it was something with my computer. Any thoughts on what to do? In previous posts with same problem suggestion was to set up a new user and access from there (not a new apple ID) I did that to know avail and I hate having to pay apple support to fix this but I can't download the lates OS without it
Ok, I cleared messages and then tried to open the App Store and this is the message in the console:
2/9/13 1:07:36.854 PM storeagent: ISSoftwareMap: <TIMEOUT> Returning NULL for updateRequestBodyData
Does this help??? If I can't figure this out I'm going to have to call Apple and I don't want to have to pay but I need to be able to update my OS.
Yes it is the HP printer.
Why doesn't is show all the time? That is a Mac OS X thing. It is Slow to see other devices on the network.
On my Mac my Windows PCs show some times, usually but only after the Mac has been running or awaken from sleep for X period of time. It is not instantaneous like it is on my Windows PCs.
