Memory upgrade easy, disk upgrade much harder.
As for the disk, opening an iMac, is not for the faint of heart. The OWC site will have videos showing how its done and explaining the procedure. Remember if you open the iMac you may void your warranty.
For an easier solution to the overcrowded disk just get an external drive.

Thank you. Very informative. I will look into OWC and Cruical...
Regarding my disk space, maybe I can move all movies to an external hard drive? Can I play them from that or will it be too slow? Can I play them just from iCloud? What are my options?

I'm fairly confident enough buffering will take place in the software to allow good playback off a USB drive but best performance will be had if you use a FireWire drive.
s for the memory both those sites have very good information regarding what memory you need for a particular mac. And the Cruical site has an app you can download that will scan your system and tell you what your memory options are.
