I have been working with an Apple Tech to resolve this. I cannot believe, since there seem to be so many of us with the same issue, that they have not solved the problem yet. I thought I was alone.

I have the same problem. After updating to iTunes 11.1.2, my iPod Video freezes (displays Do not disconnect) and is not recognised by iTunes. I am unable to reset the iPod and have to wait for the battery to go flat!
