I have a 1st generation iPad that we let my two year old daughter use in the car to keep her entertained.  A few weeks ago, when I got her out of the car, I left it on the trunk on accident, and the next morning my wife drove a few miles in the rain without realizing the iPad was still on the trunk.  Needless to say, it got soaked.  I immediately turned it off, wiped it down as best I could, and then placed it in rice for like 4 days before even trying to turn it on.

When you turn the iPad on, the screen is super bright white.  There are no colors at all, and you can barely make out the icons, but it does work fine.  It really slowly starts to gain color and become dimmer (it takes about 30 minutes of use before it looks normal again).  And after about 30 minutes, it functions just like normal, minus a few barely distinguishable funny pixels.

Here is a pic after it has been on for a few minutes...

It isn't that big of a problem, it is just inconvenient to have to run the iPad for such a long time before the color comes back in.  Does anyone know what may be broken and if it is worth it to try and fix it?

There are no user serviceable parts to an iPad.

Basically everything is on a single circuit board soldered down.

The screen and digitizer could be replaced, might be the problem.

This of course voids any remaining warranty.

Time to upgrade to an iPad (4th generation) with 4 times more RAM, faster CPU and better display.
