smtp address

I have followed the smtp address details from icloud but they dont work for me - any other suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    If you have Mountain Lion you shouldn't need to set Mail up manually. Just sign out in System Preferences>iCloud and sign back in, checking Mail in the checklist there. This should set it up automatically.

    You cannot send using iCloud's outgoing server with anything other than your iCloud address as the 'From' address.

    You can only really do this if the non-iCloud account you are using is IMAP, where - as in iCloud - the messages reside on the server. Then both of you can set it up in the Mail application and see all the mailboxes. If it's a POP account you can cope with incoming messages because you can set the application not to delete messages from the server when downloading (either not at all or after, say, a week) but the outgoing messages live on the sender's Mac and so are not visible anywhere else. The only workaround for that is to Bcc them to another address.
