I am a 'new' Apple user who is trying hard to quickly transfer old data onto my Apple systems. I have moved all my data onto the iMac (Christmas) and now want to do the same on the macbook I just got as my mobile device. The 'Thunderbolt' port and cable seems like the ideal way since it is advertised as being 'high speed' but I am not sure if I can hook up my macbook to the iMac using the thunderbolt ports - my hope is that each machine will then see the other's hard drive via the 'finder' function and I can copy my files across quickly - has anyone done this before or do I have to use the file transfer app?

Thanks in advance

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
