would appreciate any help in resolving this issue.  It is random but seems to happen when using safari

computer just goes to black screen keyboard and mouse are dead.

have used disk utilities recently for repair disk and repair permissions.  Have not tried to reinstall snowleopard as the instructions don't make sense to me.

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.

    Maybe search for...

Well, I was hopuing for something like shtdown cause & a number, this could be it but not enough info to tell.

    Great, in Finder navigate to...

    What is there if anything?

Hmmm, that's what I expected, as the log tells us it can't find it either.

We could try creating that folder & make the rights in Get Info window to Owner = system R&W, Group = whell RO, Others = RO

Or we could reinstall the OS.

Reinstall might be better, no telling what else is missing.

No, you should not lose any of your files by reinstalling, just DO NOT choose Erase & Install.

I only find directions for Erase, so not linking to that!

But basically just boot from the Install Disc then Install.
