Having read previous postings regarding the removal of software mentioned above:

I've found the .dmg file but should I just drag it to Trash? (The file does not contain an uninstaller).  Or, should I download the program again in the hope that the new download contains an uninstaller option, or will this just compound my uninstall problems?

On the same note:  I want to uninstall ClamX but that program doesn't offer an uninstall option either.

Is there a free program to safely get rid of the 2 programs or will I end up with another program which becomes resident on my hard drive?

To those iMac techies who read this:  As you can guess I am computer illiterate when it comes to delving into the workings of programs and their effects.  If you post a reply to my questions please spell out word-for-word what I should do.

Thank you.

    How to remove CleanMyMac

ClamXav can be removed by dragging it to the trashcan.

Or not, here's the devopers instructions for removing ClamXav

    22. How do I uninstall ClamXav completely?

First thing to do is quit ClamXav Sentry (if you use it) and make sure it's not set to launch at log in. You will then need to find the ClamXav disk image which you downloaded when you installed ClamXav (or download the current one again) as you will find an uninstaller application on that disk.

The uninstaller will remove the engine and any schedules you've got set up. All that's left is to drag ClamXav.app to the trash.

If you downloaded it from the AppStore, then that is correct and you uninstall it the way all AppStore apps are http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4673.

If you downloade it from the web site, then there is an engine uninstaller included with the .dmg file and Csound1's instructions are exactly right.

For future assistance, come to the ClamXav Forum first.

Removed ClamX as suggested.  Now to get rid of CleanMyMac.  Any suggestions please as a program icon is not visible?

    Remove Clean My Mac

Searched throughout my hard drive and couldn't find an icon to drag to Trash so:

I downloaded the program again (but not from the Apple Apps Store as it doesn't seem to be available as a free download at the moment, got it from the application's website).  Again, couldn't locate an uninstaller so followed your instructions and dragged all the CleanMyMac items found inside all the folders you suggested to Trash.  On my travels around my hard drive I haven't been able to find any mention of com.macpaw.

Then carried out a Disk Permissions and Verify Disk check inside Utilities and that came out as Ok.

Again, I'm sorry if I seem somewhat nonplussed by your instructions posted previously, but I am a novice when it comes to delving inside a computer's "brain" and I really do not want to learn!  As long as it performs as well as it should then it's fine by me.  I will be more discerning when selecting programs to download and install in the future.

    Thanks for your help.

What did you use to search your hard drive? If Spotlight and the Finder, they don't look everywhere by default. Recommend a third party app such as EasyFind or Find Any File be used to do this.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate your suggestion. I trawled through the folders suggested by Csound1.  I really do not want to download another program that may, or may not, become resident on my hard drive and have the trouble of getting rid of it all over again.

I understand your concern and can only state that both are strictly stand-alone apps that I rely on daily to dig out unwanted trash and lost docs. I can also report having saved an untold number of hours by using each of them when Spotlight failed me. Even if all you do is visit the Find Any File site to read his recommendation on what is appropriate to your needs would be worth your time.

I'll second MadMacs0 recommendation for EasyFind, I have used it for a long while, it's benign and works well.

    Hi helstonian,

CleanMyMac (even demo) can uninstall itsel. Just locate it in the Uninstaller and proceed removing.

Ignore this MacPaw support post.   Macpaw works hand in glove with the very programs you DON'T need.

I rarely defend those sorts of posts, but in this case, having tested it myself, that is the best and reommended way to remove it.

I just wonder where they have been for the last week.
