Why doesn't iMovie read my iMovie Event Files on my external hard drive?

I purchase a new Macbook Retina screen. I migrated my programs from my old Macbook to my new one. The migration process created a second personal user account. In the first account on the new Macbook, iMovie reads my video projects from my external hard drive but not the audio that goes with them. But it does see all my event files on my hard drive, both audio and video. On the other hand, iMovie in my second account, on the new computer, reads both the video and audio in pending and completed projects from my external hard drive but it does not see my events from the hard drive! I am not able to use events on my external hard drive to finish current projects or create new ones. All the other programs from my old computer were migrated to my second user name account. So that's the one I need to use. How do I get iMovie in that account to see my events on my external hard drive so I can use them?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), iOS 6.1
