Dec 27, 2012 8:28 AM in response to SaigonGeekby turingtest2,Follow this link to the download page for the DeDuper script, right-click on the script name there and "download" or "save as" to your downloads folder, desktop or other location of your choice. Double click to run. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. Take a look a the first page of this thread for background.

But that only deletes files in the file system. It does not delete them from iTunes.

Jan 29, 2013 9:16 AM in response to Chris CAby turingtest2,I guess one could clean up the dead links with another script, or lost & found playlists, but it wouldn't address "logical" dupes, nor preserve/merge the stats, playlist membership etc. that my DeDuper script does.

Feb 10, 2013 5:40 AM in response to Suavecito69by Christoc,Hi All
I am having problems with duplicates. If i delete a duplicate then the remaining tune is not playable... it is as if they share the same source file but are showing on different rows.
Help!
Thanks

Feb 10, 2013 5:58 AM in response to Christocby turingtest2,These are probably what I refer to as type 1 or logical duplicates back on page 1 of this thread. The other possibilty is that there are two different paths that refer to the same file, which can happen with mapped drives or folder redirection, and you've added both paths to the library. My DeDuper script handles the first case properly, but not the second as yet.

Feb 10, 2013 6:12 AM in response to turingtest2by Christoc,Hi turingtest2
Thanks. Is there any way to confirm if it is type 1 or type 2?
"Copy to iTunes media folder when adding to library" is not currently set - im not sure if this might have been set in the past? i really cant see how i would have done this.
Can i use your DeDuper script and see if it works - i.e. if it doesn't work (and is therefore type 2) will there be no detremental effects of running the script?
Thanks again

Feb 10, 2013 6:25 AM in response to Christocby turingtest2,Select a sample duplicate and look at Get Info > Summary tab. Check the location, then use Next/Previous to look at the next matching duplicate. If both have the same location (ignore case differences) then these are logical dupes and my script should be safe to use. If not then the current version of the script is not safe. In either case you should not really run the script until you have a backup of the current state of your library.
