Firewire won't connect to audio interface in my apartment, but when I bring it in to the Apple store it connects perfectly fine. BIZARRE.

The title pretty much explains it. It isn't the cable, and it isn't the port since it works PERFECTLY fine at the Applestore, (I even tried connecting it on the side of the street a block away from my apartment complex and it worked fine) but as soon as I got inside it just stopped. Power still goes through the Firewire cable, but my Macbook Pro refuses to recognize it as a connected device. I have already reset the PRAM and SMC and I've repaired disk permissions + a restart to no avail.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
