If you are seeing something different for a particular link than everyone else, you are probably victim to some kind of redirecting attack. There are a variety of ways this could happen... see:

    Eliminating browser redirects and advertisements

Regarding ClickToPlugin, that is not at all malicious. It can be found here:

Just wanted to know if my MBP might have been attacked by something on that place I visited.

We cant tell that exactly, we don't have access to your machine to make that determination.

Since your rather new to the Mac, I suggest you find someone locally that can help you and take a look at your machine personally?

We can't see anything from behind our computer screens and thus are really handicapped assisting people in your situation.

Thank you.  I can see that click toplugin is ok to have. Using the info from the article, I checked the plug ins showing in in my Finder - Go To Folder - /Library/ Internet Plugins and it shows the four that came in the 10.8.2 install plus 2 others.  Both have Flash in their names.  Since I did not get Flash Player successfully installed, I dont know whether those 2 flash plugins are ok to leave.  Since I have Google Chrome with built in flash, I didnt know if they were associated with that.

If you have Flash installed, it is normal to see Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder. I'm not sure why you say you were not able to get Flash installed... what exactly happened there?

As to the redirecting problem, browser plug-ins and extensions are only one possible source of the problems. Did you try any of the other tests described in the article I referred you to?

Yes, those are the flash plugins that show up.  When I tried to install Adobe's Flash Player last week, I would get it 55% downloaded and would get a general installation error and would then use Adobe's uninstall.  Tried a few times.  Called Apple since I just got my MBP, they checked on my settings and then walked me thru the install again.  Same failure.  They said try Adobe since it seemed a problem on their end, Adobe pointed the problem back to Apple.  I gave up when I found out Google Chrome has built in flash.  But somehow those flash plugins stayed even tho I went thru the uninstall.  But are they harmful to stay, IDK.

I did do all of the tests the article suggested except try another network.  I live in a very rural area and probably will never go to an internet cafe/starbucks, etc.  Anyway all other devices or websites accessed, worked as they should.

Did you try the fixes listed under "Domain name server issues" and "Wireless router issues"?

No, as anew Mac user that's where it begins to get over my head.  I am of the older generation and not too computer savvy.  I think I will just hope it was a random thing, hope it doesnt reoccur.  And if it does, I'll try not to panic and will take it to Apple regardless of the distance.  I also plan on buying Applecare before the end of my 3 months telepnone support.  Sounds like something I need.  Thanks again to all of you.

This is not something to be taken lightly. If you are seeing redirection on a bank site, you are in serious danger. Something is doing that maliciously, to try to gather usernames and passwords by presenting a malicious look-alike site in place of a real site. You can't know what other sites may be redirected, and they might not all be redirected to a site that Google Safe Browsing is aware of. You need to solve the problem if it is persisting. If this is more than you can handle, I will echo DS Store's recommendation that you find a local tech who can help you with this.

I will take you seriously.  But if I surf the web, what if it does not continue happening, will I be ok for a few days that it will take me to get it somewhere?  Should I just shut it down without using?

The point here is that you may not know if it's still happening. If this is a case of DNS poisoning or something like that, only certain sites will be redirected, and you may never know which ones they are. Your first warning might be that you try logging in somewhere, but find you can't for some reason, because its not actually the site you wanted to go to.

Are you still seeing the same issue with the link that was originally giving you trouble? Or has that issue resolved?

I was able to get to the correct place when I tried again on that link last evening inside the user tips.  I may TRY to follow the other tests that were in the article you linked above.  I am to the point where I am afraid of doing that and making a bigger mess of my mac from not knowing what I'm doing.  The closest Apple Store is about 100 miles from me and I live in a podunk rural area, there are a few computer repair places in the closest small town to me but I dont trust them with a Mac.  I just think since I have a suspected issue but not something that will replicate at the Apple Store, they will not search thru it, I mean it appears to be working fine today and that's what they will see.  I dont know if they would check the DNS issue and I dont think they could check  the wireless router issues.

IDK, I just have no experience with issues.  I used a windows pc in a corporate environment for 25 years and when there was a problem, we had someone on the floor that fixed it.  I retired 5 years ago, got a Toshiba laptop with windows vista (LOL) and had no issues with it until it overheated and died a few months ago.  No close friends or family that knows anything about a computer.  I do appreciate all your advice tho.

One thought I have after reading your words above about me trying to login somewhere and cant is that I would like to log in to the sites that I pay my bills to.  Other than a couple of message boards, I dont log in to anything else besides the (https secure) sites that I pay bills on.  But is this something I need to NOT do now?  My first fear when this all started was worry about my MBP itself now I am concerned about a threat to my financial stability/banking info.  But as you can tell, I can be paranoid.

If the problem has gone away, it could be that it was DNS poisoning, and the issue has now been fixed by your DNS server. I would say keep an eye on things for a little while before logging in to your online bill pay site(s). If the problem appears to be gone, you're probably okay to log in there, but if you have any difficulty logging in, be immediately suspicious and alert the company whose site you tried to log in to.

Thomas - I calle the Apple Support telephone line and spoke with a senior advisor.  He took what you had said very seriously and hooked me up with remote support.  I think I have this right - he added some DNS numbers so that I would be directed to the correct sites when I browsed.  He also cleared some caches.  He said everything else looked ok.  He also gave me his email and phone number.

I do have a problem they so far dont know how to correct.  Through iMessage I send out a message and I get the response thru my email.  Before I got the MBP, I used imessage on my iPad and loved it.  Set up the same way it does not work correctly on my MBP and since I synced my iPad to it, the iPad imessage does not work correctly now either.  So he says they dont get many calls about imessage because it usually "just works".  So they dont have much experience with it.  Thought you might enjoy knowing about that.  Anyway, I can llve without that, after all I do get the response, just have to look in my email for it.  I just feel a little bit better now knowing that he looked "in" my Mac.  And thank you again.
