I noticed something unusual with Public WIFi on iPhone5. It connected to WiFi, and able to surf the Internet and send yahoo email, BUT I was unable to send email from secure mail app.

It seemed like something do with packet sizes rather than WPA, WEP security issue.

Me too - My iPhone 5 - i have to walk within a few feet of the modem / router to connect via wifi.

If i walk more than 10 feet away it drops to 1 bar - then disconnects after about 10 seconds.

Yip - I have done all the 'handy hints' - reset network settings - backup &reset to factory settings & restore.

    Nothing works...

I upgraded to ios 6 before I went on hols Fri before last - thats when the problems started.

While on hols, the phone kept dropping wi-fi & going to 3G whithou me noticing.

I had to turn my phon off atfer day 2 because of massive connection charges when not on wifi.

Other devices in my house - 2 iPhone 4 &1 iPad2 connect no problems. & stay connected.

The 4s even connect when i drive into the driveway.

Disabling security on the router is not an option.

I'm going to see an Apple engineer this evening.

Will let you all know what happens.....

    Rgds.

    George.

Same here. iPhone 5 absolutely refuses to connect to office network. Also when it does connect (to other networks), it will often silently drop the connection and fallback to 3G.

For other non-techies like me who have this wifi problem and have tried most of the solutions here to no avail:

I finally gave in and bought a wifi extender for my home wifi and I now have consistent connection and speed. Finally. And no, my old iPhone 4 does not need this extender for connection, so yes, it is an iPhone 5 problem. And yes, THIS ADDITIONAL DEVICE EXPENSE SHOUD NOT HAVE BEEN NECESSARY! But at least the new boosting device will pay for itself as I can now go back to my original minimal data plan.

So for people out there looking for a work-around, this sadly, may be one to consider. . .

mrtravis and everyone else whose phone is still under warranty

Get a replacement!  Gather your documentation, make the phone call, get an appointment and go.

I had an extender on my network and that didn't help my connection problems with the iPhone 5, an iPhone 5 replacement did.

After much troubleshooting, my phone would connect, but than after locking the phone it disconnects. I did everything even setting a static IP. Nothing worked. This was very consistently happening to me. When I go to work the phone connects automatically to my work wifi when in range.

Today I changed my SSID on my router from the preset name. If you dont know what that it is, its the name of your wireless network ex: NETGEAR, Linksys Once I changed this I have not had this very frustrating issue. Also someone posted about once they walk 10ft away from there router it disconnects or no data. 5GHz band is terrible and does not reach far at all or penetrate walls. I suggest staying on a 2.4GHz band. Please reply if this helps anyone....

The problem is not unique to 5 GHz routers.

no I know because this was happening on my 2.4ghz band as well, i was merely just stating that someone was saying why when they got like 10ft away, so i was saying it could be because they were connected to that particular band. My issue was is occuring on 2.4

OK so it now looks like on my iPhone 5 iwth iOS 6.1 the LTE network is conflicting with my home wifi (Airport Extreme). At the Apple store the LTE signal is lost in and wifi works like a charm. At home tired all of the "fixes"

    -No security

    -WEP

    -Reset network,

-Complete reset and reload on the phone

    -ETC ETC ETC

Just turned off the cell radio and it worked. Turned on the cell radio but kept LTE off and it worked.

Apple let's get a fix so we can use your "great" phone. I have just received a BB Z10 from work and it seems to work flawlessly.
