Same here - can't import videos after upgrade!

I just got off the phone with Apple support. They had me start iTunes in safe mode, by holding down option and command at the same time, while opening iTunes. I then hit continue on the window saying it was opening in safe mode. I was then able to add movies and videos while in safe mode. When I restarted iTunes in regular mode, it was working fine. Hope this works for you guys!
The tech guy also said that the problem most likely was iTunes files not copied properly during the upgrade. His next step would have been to uninstall iTunes using the instructions on: iTunes: How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service on Mac OS X 10.6.8 or Earlier
and re-installing it, rather than dragging it to the trash and then re-installing.

Ah, looks like it wasn't working as nothing was added to where all my movies are - now just seen that it HAS been uploaded to a new sub set of movies called "home movies". Not sure why iTunes has now started putting uploads there (maybe new default location for movies not bought from the iTunes store?). Check to see if your films are there!

Right before upgrading to ITunes 11, I was able to add a movie clip (home video). Now, can't add any either!
BUT I noticed that when I went to "Recently Added" (music)...lo and behold there were the videos that I tried to add but I couldn't see them under Movies!!!. You are able to get the info on them and everything (same type and encoding like my old ones).
So to get access to them in a somewhat organized fashion, I dragged the new movie clips into a playlist so I can access them indefinitely until the issue in Itunes gets resolved.
I was still determined to get them into the movie category, so I went into "Music Videos" and "Edit" - "movie kind is" selected "Movie" and tried dragging my new movie clips (tried from both "recently added" and the new playlists) into "Music Videos". It looked like it dragged properly...but my movie count was the same - no success.
For now I am able to play my new movie clips from the new playlists or from "Recently Added".
Hope this issue gets resolved quickly.
p.s. There is nothing under "Home Videos" so it didn't accidently go into this category.
Anyone else see the recent adds under "recently added"??? If so, then this should be a fix and not something we need to reinstall....

i have the same problem, my videos WERE popping up in my 'home movies' section
today i tried to add more and nothing!!!
i then found them in my 'recently added' (THANKS to itunesnightowl...)
i got the info for one of the files and it said it was a home movie but nothing was actually in my home movie section
i changed the file from a home movie to a tv show and it popped up in my tv show section
i take it this is an apple fault so i'll be waiting patiently for a fix soon, rather frustrating tho

I had posted the same thread, sorry for the discussion administrator.
I found another workaround : disable iTunes Match !
I will re install iTunes from the pkg, I hope that fix my problem.

Same exact problem, I like the Home Movies folder, but I don't think that all movies added should go into that. Also, the Library folders don't seem to be live updating, i.e. They dont show up at all in home movies, just the recently added tab.

i uninstalled iTunes 11, then installed Quicktime, then installed itunes 11 again, and now it is working, i think its codecs related. i set Quick time as default player for .MP4 files first.
hope this works for you, movies are going the "list" folder.

So my problem is similar but different.
First, if you get the error message that iTunes requires QT, then you most likley have iTunes running in Safe Mode.. Try re-starting iTunes and see if that helps.
But MY problem is I can see the vids I've added... I can easily add them to play lists... and when I click on one, I can see it play in iTunes... But, even tho all these vids are in a playlist, only one will play at a time... so, no matter what I do, I can't get the next vid in the playlist to play sequentailly.
Vids I've purchased from Apple work just fine..... go figure.
I SUSPECT this is Apple's way of telling us to forget about home made vids, and ONLY use vids purchased in the iTunes store....

Tell me bout it, I've been using this version for a while now, wasn't impressed with a lot of the changes but I am used to it now

iTunes is indeed very difficult when it comes to adding videos. They have to be MP4 or MOV files. If you want to add other files you need to either reconvert them manually (I can recommend HandBrake) or you can use a dedicated tool to add videos to iTunes (I use VideoDrive). The first is free, the latter is not. The first is more than enough if you only have a couple of files. The latter is very useful if you want to add a lot of Movies and TV shows and you want to add descriptions and covers to them...
