I tried the plug and unplug.  I then used compressed air and blew into the jack and ear speaker.  This fixed it.

this happened to me- i was crying before finding this post -so I stuck a cotton bud inside- this did nothing-

then got my Hoover and hooved the f* out of it! haha then it started playing the music

    yay

i did also drop the phone in snow for about 7 mins before i realised it was missing

infact i dropped it twice into snow- both times not realising it fell out of my pocket- (shakes head)

i was frolicking and caused harm to my phone-

we do not get snow in london- i was a tad excited!

Thank you! This solved my problem - hard reboot holding the home and sleep/wake button. I did call from my home phone and the ringer worked, but was still showing in headphone mode with no headphones. After the hard reboot, it was fine. I tried so many other things and wasted so much time. So happy I ready your post!

I tried literally everything and the last thing i did was:

    1) Take a qtip

    2) Rip off a bit of the cotton part on one side

    3) Put that side into the headphones place.

    4) move it around for a bit and pull it out.

    5) sound should be back, i did this with the screen unlock.

How long do the ear phones have to be plugged in for (each time), before unplugging them

Hi there! I founds myself in the same boat just recently with my iPhone 4 stuck on headphone mode! I found a solution by cleaning out my photos and videos and clearing up the memory on my phone as somebody else had noted in a previous post.... As soon as I had done that my iPhone reverted back to normal ringer status and I can now listen with loud speaker an not have to use headphones! Please give this a try before trying any extreme measures! Hope this post helps..... Thanks everyone!

In response to my previous post; if any users cannot fix the issue from any suggestions listed in this thread take note. If you do not get an immediate fix by cleaning/blowing the jack -OR- the reboot method suggested by russellsimpson79, save yourselves the headache and time and replace the audio jack. This part should be replaced and it will work correctly again. This includes the audio jack and the connective ribbon.

It will cost between $55 and $65 US. After countless hours looking for a solution for my son's iPod Touch 4G, trying various suggestions without resolve, I would have gladly paid this amount for an immediate fix and be done with it. In addition, here are other symptoms due to a bad audio jack, in which replacement will fix.

    • no headphone sound
    • can only hear right or left channel
    • iTouch stuck in headphone mode
    • no sound out of headphone
    • of course, damaged or broken jack

I had mine replaced by a local UbreakIfix store at a cost of $64, took about 10 min while I waited. There are numerous Certified Apple repair shops online, however the link below is the only one I found that guaranteed a fix for this specific issue.

FIX! Just try the easy method I posted on Dec. 30, 2012---I would be very surprised if it doesn't work. We have fixed two phones this way.

    Peace....

I just fixed the stuck headphone mode on my ipad2.

After reading about solutions for the iPhone problem here

I used a hot hair dryer on the headphone jack of my ipad2 to remove

any moisture that might have gotten in there. Sofar it's back to normal

This forum helped me realize what happened.

After two hours searching the Ipad forums I couldn't find

Anything as informative as the info here

    Thanks

I've recently had the same problem and i have to say, i was freaking out, but as soon as i read this i knew i would fix it. I got a Q-tip and tore off alot of the cotton until there wasnt much left. I then made sure it was tight and cleaned out my headphones dock, next thing i knew, my speakers were working again!
