When a 1080 60i clip is added to the timeline and then "Shared" (exported), FCPX will output a 1080 30p .mov (or .mp4) video like this:

    60i.jpg

The upper 1920x540 field is used and the lower 1920X540 field is discarded. The lines of the upper field are doubled to fill in the gaps. Not too bad but notice the heavy aliasing due to line doubling.

If the project is set to 59.94 frame rate and Deinterlaced option selected, then the upper field and lower 1920x540 field will both be line-doubling into 1920X1080 frames, yielding  similar results shown in the example.

This is if you put your 60i media into a 30p project, correct? Otherwise the master file export is 60i. Or do you mean some other export function sucha s for the web?

This is dragging 60i media onto the timeline and FCPX automatically set the project frame rate based on the first clip.

Which would be a 60i project and when you export a master file the application exports an interlaced ProRes file.

I tried checking the deinterlace box on the info tab but when i do the video seems to compact and cuts the viewing are in half.  Any ideas why?

You are right, Tom! Auto setting based on the first clip will set the Project Properties to 1080i. To output 30p and 60p deinterlaced video, the Project Properties need to be set at 1080p.

Maybe it's a good idea to start a test project from scratch!

Custom set the new Project Properties to 1080p and frame rate to 59.94 or 29.97.

Add 30 seconds of 60i clip to the timeline.

Share/Master File and see how long it takes to output 60p and 30p and the results.

Experiment with the Deinterlace options in the Info/Settings View panel to see if they improve the output image quality and the Share/Export time.
